Visit Responsibilities As a Health Education Specialist you will:

Design and implement innovative health education strategies to enhance efforts to effectively educate the affected populations, their families and health care providers on public health surveillance, prevention, and intervention.

Develop all training materials using standard instructional design and state of the art and multimedia techniques. Conduct needs assessments to identify educational priorities and needs among diverse audiences interested in public health education.

Provide expertise, leadership, consultation, and technical expertise and assistance to grantees and contractors in planning, implementing, and evaluating appropriate materials for health education programs.

Requirements Conditions of Employment Due to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC's) process enhancement to use Shared Certificates throughout the Agency, some of the requirements below may differ:
US Citizenship required. Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service (see ). May be subject to a Background/Security Investigation. Security clearance level may differ from the position announced when certificates are shared. CDC participates in the USCIS Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify). E-Verify helps employers determine employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security numbers. Direct deposit is required. One-year probationary period may be required. This position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement. Time in grade (TIG) must be met within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. This position may be subject to the OGE Financial Disclosure requirements of the Ethics in Government Act of 1978 (P.L CDC inspires public confidence in its trust responsibilities and mission by maintaining high ethical principles.

If selected, you may be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) to determine if a conflict or an appearance of a conflict exists between your financial interest and your prospective position with the agency.

If identified, this will be an annual requirement.

In accordance with Executive Order 12564 of September 15, 1986, The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is A Drug-Free Federal Workplace.

This position may require a Drug Test and be subject to Random Drug Testing.

The position may require the submission of a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and be subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing upon hiring.

If required to submit to urinalysis, the appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative test result. Qualifications All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.

OR Combination of education and experience courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.


Minimum Qualifications:

GS-12: To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include the following experience: analyzing, designing, developing, implementing and evaluating a variety of interactive public health training activities.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Promotion potential:

Promotion to the next grade level is at management's discretion and is based on your meeting qualifications and time-in-grade requirements, demonstrated ability to perform the higher-level duties, the continuing need for the higher-level duties, and administrative approval.

Promotion to the next grade level is not guaranteed and no promise of promotion is implied.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S.

This position is located on the Training and Community of Practice Team within the Capacity Building and Technical Assistance Development Branch in the Division of State and Local Readiness.
