The US ITER ICH/ECH Heating Systems Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) Team Leader works with the Project Director, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Engineering Systems Division Director, Manufacturing Systems Division Director and WBS Team Leaders to manage and lead the US ITER ICH/ECH Heating Systems Group.

The ICH/ECH Heating Systems Group will provide the design and procurement basis for all the Ion Cyclotron Heating & Electron Cyclotron Heating systems and equipment for US ITER contributions.

Activities will span R&D, design, fabrication, testing and delivery of vacuum systems equipment in accordance with specific requirements of the ITER organization.


Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing of ICH/ECH Heating Systems Group, including execution of ICH/ECH scope, and definition of required resources and schedule for each US ITER in-kind contribution.
  • Develops and manages in a timely manner the budget plans for the ICH/ECH Heating Systems Group. The ICH/ECH Heating Systems Group currently consists of approximately 15 staff members; with a Line-Item budget of approximately $212M over the life of the construction project. Group size will vary throughout the project duration depending on project phase.
  • Develops annual work plans and manages the implementation of those plans.
  • Responsible for hiring staff members within the ICH/ECH Group and evaluating their performance towards achieving required goals.
  • Works with the ITER Organization in development of the ICH/ECH Heating Systems detail designs. Overall responsibility includes design, research and development, acquisition, fabrication, acceptance testing and delivery of equipment to the ITER site.
  • Tracks progress of ICH/ECH Heating Systems towards achieving planned milestones.
  • Completes and executes in a timely manner the periodic performance evaluations for ICH/ECH Heating Systems members in the direct employ of US ITER / UT-Battelle. Contributes to performance evaluations for team members that are matrixed to the project.
  • Develops and implements professional development of staff.
  • Coordinates preparations for, presentations at, and responses to, external technical reviews and advisory committees.
  • Ensures ICH/ECH Heating Systems comply with ITER Organization standards and requirements. .
  • Ensures and leads Group and individual compliance with environment, safety, health, and quality program requirements.
  • Maintains a strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics.

Responsible for managing of US ITER I&C Group, including execution of I&C scope, and definition of required resources and schedule for each US ITER in-kind contribution.


Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors Degree (or higher) in science or engineering
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in design, building, and/or testing heating systems (ICH/ECH) hardware for large-scale R&D or industrial facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Masters Degree (or higher) in science or engineering
  • 12+ years of experience in design, building, and testing controls hardware for large-scale R&D or industrial facilities
  • At least 10 years of experience leading or supervising teams responsible for heating systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience managing a project having a multi-organizational collaborative work environment (e.g. managing teams from multiple institutions or national laboratories)

Special Requirements:

  • Available for foreign and domestic travel
  • Able to attend remote conferencing during non-standard work hours due to collaboration across time zones
