The Position

As a Software Engineer at STEAMe, you will utilize your engineering expertise across the entire tech stack to deliver top-notch software solutions.

We are seeking a passionate, committed, and self-driven Software Engineer to join the STEAMe Engineering team. Our ideal candidate should possess a keen interest and hands-on experience in software development using web technologies, along with a genuine enthusiasm for our mission. Key responsibilities for this role involve collaborating with team members on technical designs and demonstrating proficiency in coding, debugging, and maintaining code within a shared codebase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop software for the full spectrum of the STEAMe product suite, encompassing front-end web apps, services, data tools, analytics, and deployment pipelines
  • Work closely with fellow engineers and product management in a collaborative setting to deliver exceptional software products
  • Engage in the complete software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, development, testing, and documentation
  • Propose and implement enhancements to our development processes
  • Swiftly adapt to new technologies and methodologies
  • Participate in agile development ceremonies like estimation, refinement, and retrospectives
  • Effectively track and oversee assigned project tasks and documentation
  • Collaborate with the team to create technical specifications and documentation

Requirements & Experience

  • 2+ years of professional software development experience with a BS in computer science, or 4+ years of professional software development experience
  • Proficiency in developing products using front-end web frameworks and languages such as React and Typescript
  • Experience in building services with back-end frameworks, tools, and object-oriented languages like .NET, Node, and C#
  • Familiarity with Relational Databases and query languages such as Postgres and SQL
  • Background in test-driven development and unit testing. Familiarity with end-to-end testing frameworks like Jest and Playwright is advantageous.
  • Experience in developing cloud applications and utilizing cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS for product delivery
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Quick adaptability to new technologies
  • Dedication to crafting exceptional software and taking pride in one's work

Environmental Job Requirements

  • This position is located in Chicago, IL and does not support remote work.
  • STEAMe follows a Hybrid work model, with 3 days working from home and 2 days working in the office, specifically on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
