Summary:

Position Summary: The Instrument Technician is responsiblefor all aspects of instrument care as well as the maintenance ofthe sterile processing area and proper functioning of sterileprocessing equipment. The staffing of the Center is based on ateamwork concept. Employees may be cross-trained in other clinicalareas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normalones as staffing and patient needs change.

Responsibilities: 1. Cleans, decontaminates, sterilizesand maintains instruments in good working condition

2. Assures all instrument trays are assembled properly andcontent is correct

3. Documents andmaintains sterilizer load information

4.Documents and maintains sterilizer Biologic testingrecords

5. Maintains all sterileprocessing equipment

6. Maintains supplyinventory in the scrub sink area

7. Assistwith preparation and cleaning of operating rooms betweenpatients

8. Performs other duties asassigned

9. Maintains establishedCenter/departmental policies and procedures

10. Maintains confidentiality of patient and Centerrelated business

11. Develops and maintains aneffective working relationship with patients, families, visitorsand other Center employees

12. Documentsconcisely, precisely and accurately on all records or documents asindicated by policy.

13. Participates inQuality Assessment activities as directed for the continuousimprovement of patient care and Centerbusiness

Special Skills andKnowledge: 1. Care and handling of surgical instruments 2. Use ofsterilizers 3. Monitoring the sterilization process 4. Properloading of the sterilizer 5. Proper handling of sterilized packages6. Principles of Universal precautions

Requirements:

  • High Schoolgraduate or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 yearexperience
  • Current BLS
