Description

ROLE SUMMARY:

  • Conduct various research and laboratory tests following set protocols and schedules under general supervision.
  • Execute experiments as directed by a principal investigator.
  • Engage in lab upkeep tasks like equipment sterilization, supply ordering, and record maintenance.
  • Document work in lab notebooks and databases, analyze data, and prepare findings for publication and presentations.
  • Adhere to safety measures when working with hazardous agents.
  • Fulfill other duties as instructed by the principal investigator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or equivalent combination of experience and education.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Science.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

  • This role is for a research specialist in the Lakdawala Lab at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine, Emory University.
  • The Lakdawala lab focuses on studying the origins of pandemic influenza viruses and their transmission, with an emphasis on airborne spread and viral reassortment.
  • Responsibilities include molecular biology experiments, virus stock maintenance, lab inventory, and training students in lab techniques.
  • Tasks may involve handling human or animal influenza viruses in tissue cultures and conducting various assays like fluorescence microscopy and western blot.
  • The position also entails detailed record-keeping and basic animal research activities.

NOTE:

This role is mainly on-site at Emory University, with the possibility of occasional remote work. Any changes in remote work status will be communicated in advance.
