Key Responsibilities:

  • Individualized Instruction: Develop and implement tailored individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet the unique learning needs of each student, ensuring their academic and social growth.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, and support staff to create a cohesive approach to student learning and support.
  • Assessment & Progress Monitoring: Conduct regular assessments to track student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed, effectively communicating outcomes to families and team members.
  • Behavior Management: Employ positive behavior support strategies to cultivate a nurturing and productive classroom environment.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for students needs by connecting them with appropriate resources, services, and accommodations to promote their success.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field is required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Licensure: Valid North Carolina teaching certification in Special Education is required.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • ESSA Compliance: Must meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements, or a willingness to meet these requirements.
  • Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and organizational skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Approach: A student-centered mindset focused on promoting inclusivity, independence, and a love for learning.
