Workweek40 Hours | Monday through Friday (24/7 availability), flexible schedule to meet department needs to include possible evenings and weekendsPosition SummaryProvide and maintain campus public safety at McHenry County College CampusEssential Job Functions and ResponsibilitiesRespond to campus emergencies.Deliver emergency messages to staff and students on campus.Receive and respond to service requests and questions regarding campus public safety.Patrol assigned areas to protect campus occupants, buildings and grounds through the enforcement of applicable state, federal, and local laws.Patrol building and grounds of McHenry County College and other College properties.Investigate criminal conduct, honor code violations, and conduct administrative investigations as directed. May be required to provide courtroom testimony based on investigation.Prepare written reports.Report potential fire hazards and implement emergency procedures in the event of a fireEnforce parking and traffic rules and regulations. Issue warnings and/or tickets when required.Proactively perform preventative patrol in uniform, plain clothes, on foot, or in a vehicle, and utilize the College electronic surveillance equipment.Provide personal security consultation to administrators, faculty, staff, and students who are threatened, being followed, or stalked.Attend court as required.Assist with vehicle jump starts and lockouts on campus.Work collaboratively with others (e.g., colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities.Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.Required QualificationsAssociate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the equivalent combination of related training and education.First Responder Certificate, or equivalent CPR, First Aid and AED Certification or specialized training.Valid driver’s license.Valid F.O.I.D. card.Certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Board or must obtain within 6 months of employmentPossess various access levels to LEADS or must obtain with 6 months of employment.Other applicable specialized training as required.One-year experience in related public safety or law enforcement position; or equivalent education and experienceDesired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.Certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer’s Training Board.Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills.Skills and Specifications:Firearms proficiencyAbility to maintain certification by the Illinois Local Governmental Law Enforcement Officer’s Training BoardMust be able to maintain appropriate level of physical and mental fitness for dutyAbility to maintain various access levels to LEADSProficient in Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to learn technological applicationsKnowledge of campus public safety proceduresKnowledge of first responder and general first aid proceduresAbility to communicate clearly both orally and in writing under stressful conditionsResponsible, honest, dependable, and conscientiousAbility to maintain effective working relationships Ability to prioritize incidents as they ariseAbility to acquire and keep confidential all campus public safety informationWillingness and ability to determine problems and create individual solutionsAbility to work in a dynamic environment that requires being sensitive to change and responsive to changing goals, priorities, and needsAbility to make decisions that govern and impact the activities and behavior of staff members and citizensAbility to safely lift 60 pounds unassistedPossess the physical ability to respond to various emergency situationsPhysical ability to continuously walk during scheduled shift, and to get into and out of a motor vehicleAbility to see, including depth and color perceptionAbility to hear, speak, and smellCommitment and respect for diversity and MCC Behaviors of ExcellenceCommitment to the college mission, vision, values, and goalsAbility to perform all of the essential functions, skills, and specifications of the position*Subject to Criminal Background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug test, physical fitness assessment and may also include a polygraph examination.*Position subject to Bloodborne Pathogen Legislation Equal Employment OpportunityMcHenry County College declares and reaffirms a policy of equal opportunity and non-discrimination.
