Hampton, United States Booz Allen Hamilton Full time
Data Engineer

The Opportunity:

Ever-expanding technology like IoT, machine learning, and artificial intelligence means that there’s more structured and unstructured data available today than ever before. As a data engineer, you know that organizing big data can yield pivotal insights when it’s gathered from disparate sources. We need a data professional like you to help our clients find answers in their big data to impact important missions—from fraud detection to cancer research to national intelligence.

As a big data engineer at Booz Allen, you’ll use your skills to implement data engineering activities on some of the most mission-driven projects in the industry. You’ll help develop and deploy the pipelines and platforms that organize and make disparate data meaningful.

Here, you’ll learn from a multi-disciplinary team of analysts, data engineers, developers, and data consumers in a fast-paced, agile environment. You’ll grow your skills in analytical exploration and data examination while you support the assessment, design, building, and maintenance of scalable platforms for your clients.

Work with us to use big data for good.

Join us. The world can’t wait.

You Have:

  • 2+ years of experience with data engineering and data wrangling and building highly scalable ETL or DataOps pipelines

  • 2+ years of experience in relational and dimensional modeling techniques, organizing, and structuring

  • 2+ years of experience in applying principles, best practices, and trade-offs of schema design to various types of database technologies, including relational, columnar, graph, SQL, or NoSQL

  • 2+ years of experience with implementing web services, including SOAP and RESTful APIs using microservices architectures and design patterns

  • Experience with programming languages, such as Python, SQL, Scala, Java, or UNIX and Linux shell scripting

  • Ability to develop scripts and programs for converting various types of data into usable formats

  • Ability to work in a big data environment, learn technical concepts quickly, demonstrate technical solutions, standards, and best practices, and communicate and demonstrate with multiple functional groups to include non-technical stakeholders

  • TS/SCI clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, or Computer Science

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience working in Agile, DevSecOps teams and environments, including Atlassian tools

  • Experience with implementing rapid response query solutions on Big Data platforms leveraging Elasticsearch, or scalable query engine implementations

  • Experience in implementing batch and real-time big data integration frameworks and applications, in private or public cloud, including AWS or Azure, using various technologies, including Hadoop, Spark, Impala, debugging, identifying performance bottlenecks, and finetuning those frameworks

  • Knowledge of Zero Trust and how to design data architectures leveraging role-based data access

  • Knowledge of relational and dimensional modeling techniques

  • Ability to conduct research on emerging technologies and industry trends independently

  • Amazon Certified Solutions Architect and Associate Certification

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science or related technical fields

Clearance:

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
