POSITIONSUMMARY: The Critical Care Technician (CCT) isresponsible for competent care of patients in the medical setting,and reacts quickly and effectively to critical and emergencysituations. Competent in essential functions as listedbelow. The CCT communicates with interdisciplinary team aboutduties, responsibilities, and findings. The CCT organizes care in amanner that contributes to the overall quality of the team; andperforms other job duties as assigned, within their scope ofpractice. The CCT is a vital part of the team that acts as a mentorand preceptor to new staff.
Requirements
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent plus trade or vocational schooltraining in medical/surgical patient care.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Current BLS issued through American HeartAssociation is required
- Completionof an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program as an EMT B/I/P;or
- A NursingStudent who has recently completed a minimum of one (1) clinicalrotation as a part of an accredited nursing school program forregistered nurse; or
- Successful completion of the in-house advanced certifiednursing assistant training program as Advanced Certified NursingAssistant (ACNA); or
- Successful completion of a Medical/Primary Care Assistantprogram (MA/PCA)
CRITICAL CARE EXPANDED DUTIESTRAINING:
- Peripheralintravenous access and removal
- Disasterpreparedness and use of PAPR
- fem. gov trainingcourse IS 100 and other FEMA courses as requested and/orrequired
- Recording of I & O’s
- Foley Catheter insertion and removal
- Nasogastric tube insertion and removal
- Foley Catheter insertion and removal
- Cardiac Telemetry/EKG rhythm interpretation
- Suture/Staple removal
- Training willbe provided by the Clinical Educator and Medical staff during theorientation period.
SKILLS:
- Must have critical thinking skills and the ability toprioritize quickly
- Demonstrate efficientresponse to critical care and emergent medical situations, usingBLS and first aid training
- Demonstrate theability to operate and maintain emergency medical devices andcritical care equipment
- Possess excellentcommunication and electronic documentation skills, with an abilityto read and interpret technical reports, charts, and ECGmonitoring
- Demonstrate the ability to handle ahigh level of stress and to maintain composure under a variety ofadverse conditions.
EXPERIENCE:
NATURE OFSUPERVISION:
-Responsible to: Reportsdirectly to the Critical Care Director, Clinical Manager ordesignee of area assigned, for essential job duties and day-to-dayresponsibilities.
ENVIRONMENT:
- Bloodborne pathogens - B
Works irregular hours. Multiplesimultaneous activities around patient care. Exposure to x-rays andinfectious diseases such as hepatitis-B and AIDS. In addition, maybe subject to varying unpredictable situations such as violencefrom mentally unstable patients.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must demonstrate appropriate body mechanics forprolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking, kneeling,bending, and lifting, secondary to emergent/urgent situations.Frequently lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients orequipment as per policy and procedure. Hearing and visual acuitymust be within normal limits or with appropriate prescribed medicaldevices. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordinationrequired. The work is not only physically strenuous but can bestressful, sometimes involving life-or-death situations andsuffering patients.
