The Campus Rec Student Manager is responsible to provide and oversee operations for respective Campus Recreation programs and facilities during set work hours. The Manager will provide direction to student workers by supervising tasks, monitoring performance, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. They are responsible to provide training and equip staff daily to perform required duties. The Campus Rec Student Manager is responsible for maintaining safety, reducing risk and providing excellent customer service to all patrons.
The Outdoor Rec Programming Manager is responsible to provide leadership to all calendar events and programs. Managers will provide direction to student workers under them, and they are responsible to provide training and equip staff during any Outdoor Recreation trip or event. The Manager is to provide excellent customer service to all participants and ensure a great experience on trips.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Responsible for overseeing Outdoor Recreation calendar events and programs ensuring facility cleanliness, a high level of customer service, and effective operations.
- Responsible for assisting in the oversight of an Outdoor Rec Programming student employee team. This includes assisting with interviewing, training, developing, scheduling, and evaluating.
- Assists in the maintenance and adherence of risk management procedures and policies during Outdoor Recreation trips and events, ensuring compliance with university policies.
- Document and report incidents and injuries during Outdoor Recreation trips and events.
- Lead CSER workers or volunteers, providing a model of hard work for them to follow.
- Responsible for facilitation of specific Challenge Course events under direction of the full-time staff.
- Promote, plan, and evaluate Outdoor Recreation programming and events.
- Responsible for the collection of payments during each shift, as needed.
- Frequently oversee operations or events during evening, nights, or weekend hours.
- Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.
- Perform all other tasks assigned by the Outdoor Rec Programming Coordinator to aid and assist in the operation of Campus Recreation Facilities.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.
- Student Employees on shift
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- Ability to work up to 29 hours per week
- Availability to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night)
- Ability to work over school breaks (including summer and winter break)
- Wilderness First Aid Certifications, Challenge Course Certifications, Swiftwater Rescue Certifications.
- Previous experience with outdoor recreation programming or facilities
- Management Experience
- Experience working in a recreation and fitness environment
- Desire to pursue recreation management as a career field
- Ability to communicate effectively to convey clear, well-articulated information.
- Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
- Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
- Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
- Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
- Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
- Regularly lift 40 or fewer pounds.
- The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is split between a climate-controlled office setting and outdoor facilities. Both areas are well lit and the noise level is moderate.
- Off-site trips may travel away from the University to rural and back-country locations.
- Use of one’s personal vehicle (or LU vehicles) is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required. The ability to drive a truck and trailer is preferred.
