Blazerjobs is seeking dedicated and qualified Sign Language Interpretersto join a respected school district in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the upcoming school year. This is an exciting opportunity for SLIs committed to facilitating communication and ensuring equal access to education for students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation services to students who are Deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings, including classrooms, assemblies, and extracurricular activities.
  • Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa, ensuring clear and accurate communication between students, teachers, and other school personnel.
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and support staff to provide effective communication support and ensure the inclusion and participation of students with hearing impairments.
  • Adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines for interpretation, maintaining confidentiality and neutrality in all interactions.
  • Continuously assess and improve interpretation skills through professional development opportunities and ongoing training.

Schedule:

  • Elementary: 7:40 AM - 2:30 PM
  • Middle School: 8:30 AM - 3:20 PM
  • High School: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting, Education, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) preferred.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with Deaf culture.
  • Previous experience working as an SLI or interpreter in an educational setting is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
