Be the Voice for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students: Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Walker, LA Area)

Soliant Education is seeking a dedicated and passionate Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to join our team in the Walker, LA area. This full-time, on-site position offers the rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of students with hearing impairments in a K-8th grade setting.

About the Role:

As a Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will play a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, and communication needs of students with hearing impairments. You will provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where students can thrive. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
  • Utilizing a variety of communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), auditory-verbal approaches, and assistive technology, to effectively teach and communicate with students.
  • Providing direct instruction in academic subjects, social skills, and self-advocacy skills specific to the K-8th grade curriculum.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers, specialists, and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive support system for students with hearing impairments.
  • Assessing students' educational needs and progress, and making necessary adjustments to instructional plans.
  • Advocating for the needs and rights of students with hearing impairments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Deaf Education or a related field for the state of Louisiana.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of other communication methods used by students with hearing impairments.
  • Experience working with students with hearing impairments in a K-8 school setting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of deaf education methodologies and best practices for elementary and middle school students.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
