Job Summary

Head Start for Kent County is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality care and education for our young children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide classroom coverage to ensure compliance with licensing ratios and maintain a safe and healthy environment for children.
  • Cultivate relationships with education and site staff to enhance teacher-child interactions and support teacher knowledge and skills.
  • Support early childhood educators in identifying children's needs, developing educational plans, and referring children for further evaluation when necessary.
  • Maintain Inter Rater Reliability in the agency child assessment tool and generate reports to provide follow-up when required.
  • Conduct ongoing observations and data analysis to assess curriculum fidelity, children's progress, and adult-child interactions.
  • Model best practices for adult/child interaction, including the CLASS system, and ensure classrooms are set up to reflect a culturally responsive and high-quality inclusive learning environment.
  • Coordinate and collaborate effectively with agency staff to carry out goals and meet the needs and expectations of the department and the agency.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or a related field with relevant coursework and experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Head Start Performance Standards and State of Michigan Child Care Licensing Rules preferred.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification within 90 days.
  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office.
