Position Summary

Job Description:
Applications are invited for an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Visual & Performing Arts to teach courses in Design Fundamentals that serve our Fine Art and Graphic Design programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the freshman-level Design Fundamentals course, engaging students in the foundational concepts of two- and three-dimensional visual organization. Other duties include holding office hours and communicating with department faculty and administration.

Outcome:

Course Development and Delivery:Develop, deliver, and continuously update the syllabus and course materials for Design Fundamentals.Ensure course materials cover various design techniques, materials, and principles as described in the course description.Create a classroom environment conducive to active learning and individual growth.Maintain the syllabus and course schedule on Canvas, ensuring all materials and updates are accessible to students.Student Engagement:Foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable participating and expressing themselves.Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and projects.Offer additional support and guidance to students needing extra help.Assessment and Evaluation:Prepare and administer assessments in accordance with departmental guidelines.Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to help students improve their skills.
Design Fundamentals: This course is an introduction to the techniques, materials, and principles of two- and three-dimensional visual organization. Through a series of projects involving the visual elements of line, shape, value, texture, and color, students investigate the fundamental concepts of design and develop creative and problem-solving skills.Essential Functions

Orients and maintains current knowledge related to facilities policies and procedures.Keeps the Department Chair informed of all student and agency issues and concerns.Works with college administration, staff and other faculty members to improve the overall operation of the college and student success rates.Serves as a professional role model for other faculty, staff, and students in the area of customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, dress, attendance, and general professionalism.Evaluates assignments in a timely manner. Provides feedback to student on level of performance based on course objectives.Adheres to applicable regulatory rules and standards.Experience and Education Required

Educational Qualifications:

An MFA in Design, Fine Art, or a related field preferred, BA in related field required.Experience:Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred, including experience gained while in graduate school.1 to 3 years of professional experience as a working artist or the field of design is desirable.Required Skills and Qualifications

Excellent interpersonal, observational, and communication skills.Strong organizational and analytical abilities.Patience, empathy, and the ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications:
A record of published work or contributions to the field of design.Active participation in professional conferences and workshops.Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into teaching.
