Maxwell Street Presbyterian Church (MSPC) is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Leaders to join our Youth Ministry Program. Youth Leaders will be responsible for helping to create a safe and nurturing environment for young individuals, offering guidance and mentorship, and organizing educational and recreational activities. This role aims to empower youth, promote personal development, and foster positive relationships within the community. MSPC is an inclusive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, service-oriented Christian congregation. Youth Leaders will demonstrate a personal commitment to a faith that values these principles.
- Program Planning: Support the Youth Director in planning and organizing age-appropriate activities, workshops, and events that promote leadership, teamwork, and skill-building among youth.
- Safety and Well-being: Help ensure the safety and well-being of youth participants by implementing and enforcing program rules and child-safety policies.
- Role Modeling: Demonstrate and promote responsible behavior, respect for others, and a commitment to community service. Provide guidance, support, and encouragement in their personal, academic, and social development.
- MSPC Community Engagement: Help foster positive relationships and collaboration with parents, the MSPC community, and other MSPC staff to create a supportive network for youth. Youth Leaders are encouraged to learn about other MSPC programs, including Campus Ministry and Mission, and look for collaboration opportunities.
- Conflict Resolution and Crisis Intervention: Assist youth in resolving conflicts, addressing challenges, and developing conflict resolution skills. Be prepared to address and respond to crises or emergencies involving youth as necessary or refer youth/parents to the Youth Director/Senior Pastor.
- Passion for empowering and advocating for youth.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to work with diverse groups of young people.
- Clear background checks and reference checks.
- Usual programming occurs Sunday from 10:30am – 2:00pm. Youth Leaders are expected to attend Worship and Youth Group weekly unless an absence is approved by the Youth Director. Planning and communication outside of Sunday will be approximately 4 hours per month. (Lunch is provided on Sundays.)
- The position requires some flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate youth programs, events, and leadership meetings.
