PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsible for accurate receiving, storing, picking, cutting, packaging and shipping of product to meet the company’s 1 + 3 Operational Perfection @ Southwire (OPS) metrics in the areas of safety, quality, service/velocity and waste/cost reduction. 
  2. Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a forklift or other powered material handling equipment (MHE).
  3. Responsible for filling customer orders and delivering them to the correct staging area. 
  4. Responsible for the completeness and correctness of all orders filled. 
  5. Ensure that the quantity, quality, packaging, labeling and addressing of outbound orders corresponds to customer specifications or other requirements. 

Receiving/Inbound Freight

  1. Count all products, compare to packing list(s) and check all shipments for damage.
  2. Report shortages, damages and mis-shipments on appropriate forms. 
  3. Sign for inbound shipments when necessary. 
  4. Unload inbound shipments safely and move product to the proper storage locations. 
  5. Efficiently and safely stack and store product in appropriate areas.

Order Picking

  1. Efficiently pick customer orders for shipment, ensuring that the correct number and type of product is picked. 
  2. Assemble orders for shipment as necessary. 
  3. Carry or transport orders to correct shipping locations. 
  4. Stencil, tag, label or mark orders as required. 
  5. Responsible for lifting multiple spools of electrical wire consistently throughout a 12-hour shift.

Loading/Outbound Freight

  1. Compare quantity, labeling and address with customer’s order to ensure outgoing shipments are complete and correct.
  2. Accept signature for outbound shipments as necessary.
  3. Efficiently move product into trailers or containers.

 

 

 

 

 

Cutting / Paralleling

  1. Responsible for loading unloading empty wooden reels and reels of electrical wire consistently throughout a 8-hour shift.
  2. Responsibility for the payoff and take up of the rewinding process of cutting/paralleling of wire to customer specifications. 
  3. Responsible for stringing wire from the payoff through the counter to the take-up.
  4. This includes proper packaging, marking, and tagging to the customer specifications.

Quality:

  1. Ensure inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage.
  2. Follow company quality guidelines. 
  3. Report quality variances.
  4. Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to help guide all daily quality activities.

Equipment

  1. Maintain equipment in a neat, clean and orderly fashion. 
  2. On a daily basis, inspect and perform minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
  3. Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner following prescribed work methods.
  4. Comply with OSHA and company standards.

Inventory:

  1. Keep appropriate records and reports to guarantee that tight inventory control and security are maintained. 
  2. Assist in physical inventories and cycle counts. 
  3. Ensure proper stock rotation. 
  4. Make key inventory adjustments on a computer.

Other Duties

  1. Repack or re-box cases per customer instructions.
  2. Repair and recoup damaged goods as required.
  3. Operate shrink-wrap machine. 
  4. Charge forklift battery as needed; repair pallets when necessary; clean trailers and truck bays as requested.
  5. Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking as needed.

 

Communication

  1. Coordinate as necessary with all functional areas within the service center, especially Customer Service, Transportation and Maintenance.

 

 

ENVIRONMENTAL/SAFETY:

  1. Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle all materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact.
  2. Follow prescribed safety rules/procedures so as to prevent injury to self and others and to maintain safe equipment and conditions in entire area of responsibility.
  3. Seek the assistance and advice of safety representatives on matters concerning safe practices, policies and/or procedures and give personal support to all safety activities and procedures
  4. Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area. 
  5. Assist in maintaining security of the warehouse.
  6. Report issues and problems to Management.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Normal warehouse working conditions, 8-hour shifts.
  2. Must be capable of standing and walking for extended periods.
  3. Must be able to twist, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder level and crouch on a frequent basis. 
  4. Must be able to use proper techniques to lift 50-75 pounds.
  5. Must be able to use hands and feet simultaneously and for repetitive movements. 
  6. When operating a forklift, may be constantly on and off of lift.

  • Minimum of one year experience operating a forklift

  • Must have basic computer skills – MS Excel, MS Word, Data Entry, SAP desirable
  • Must be able to stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours
  • Meeting physical requirements, such as lifting, bending and standing for long periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Follow quality service standards and comply with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Possess extreme attention to detail, organization and accuracy
  • The ability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.
