Department Summary:

MITRE's Nuclear Weapons and C2 Systems Department is seeking Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) Engineer to provide expertise and support to the most critical challenges our sponsors and their missions face. Our teams provide technical expertise and guidance using state of the art capabilities, tools, and methods to enhance programs defensive posture to thwart advanced adversarial attacks. Our main sponsors possess the policy, warfighting, organizational, and program responsibilities within the Air Force Nuclear Enterprise.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to technical products that enable data-driven decisions and result in impactful mission outcomes
  • Develop and maintain a trusted customer relationship with the Government
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Government and team
  • Possess strong leadership skills to advise, influence, and lead cyber operations and development teams

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires less than 1 year of experience with a Bachelor’s degree in cyber security or related STEM degree; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Exceptional oral, written, and communications skills to effectively present technical material and advise program stakeholders
  • Experience working in collaborative team environments
  • Broad cyber knowledge across technical areas to include software, hardware, cloud computing, aircraft / avionic systems, and IT networks and systems
  • Familiarity with disciplines such as: information warfare, networks/contested networks, adversary methodologies, Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO), and the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
  • Ability to self-organize with minimal oversight
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
  • Experience with Cyber Table Tops (TTXs), red team operations, and / or adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Experience conducting research and analysis to drive technical recommendations
  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Well versed in detection engineering and SIEM deployment architectures (e.g., Splunk, Elastic), threat casting, threat hunting, behavioral analyses
  • Experience working DoD acquisition programs
  • Experience interacting with multiple levels of Government and Military leadership
  • Experience in DevOps Engineering principles and technical implementations
  • General understanding/familiarity with NC3 Systems and Architectures
  • DoD 8570 Certification for IAT Level III
