Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 9:30am - 6:00pm

Pay Based on Experience -- Starting @ 26.00/hour

Job Responsibilities:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures such as various nucleic acid extractions from blood, buccal/saliva cell, prenatal samples (direct and cultured cells) and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

  • Complete all paperwork in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Assist with general laboratory support including organizing and filing samples, quality control, maintaining and monitoring equipment

  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary

  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed

  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace in accordance with 5S protocols

  • Maintain genomic and cell line controls according to detailed standard operating procedures

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, EGL/LC EHS policies / procedures and the requirements of accrediting organizations

EHS Responsibilities:

  • Complete all required EHS training

  • Wear appropriate PPE as required

  • Conduct work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Complete 12 credit hours of Continuing Education (CEUs) per calendar year

  • May take on independent projects and tasks beyond routine work, at the discretion of the supervisor

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements

  • Previous clinical laboratory testing experience is highly preferred

  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
