Description

POSITIONSUMMARY: This position oversees the implementation,support and delivery of clinical information systems to theSurgical Services department.  Responsibilities and oversightinclude upgrades, testing, and maintenance; and the coordination ofeducating the Medical Staff and Associates.

This position collaborates with Information Systems,Medical Staff, Nursing Services, Organizational Development,Process Improvement and other CHRISTUS St. Vincent, CHRISTUS Healthand non-CHRISTUS Health entities to improve and enhance theinterchange of clinical information and the computerized medicalrecord.

This position supports strategicorganizational goals using information technology to facilitatecustomer service, improve patient care and resolve business relatedproblems. This position supports clinical review to scheduling andauthorization department. Integral to the role is serving as a keycontributor in the selection of information systems.



Requirements

EDUCATION:  Graduate ofan accredited program for Registered Nursing.  BSN preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: R. N.with current New Mexico State license. 

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated experience with current systems analysisprinciples, practices, tools and techniques
  • Experience with project management principles andpractices including project planning, organization, scheduling,allocation and management of resources, budgeting andreporting
  • Considerable knowledge of andexperience with current system and application and designprinciples and concepts, including:
    • Databasedesign and optimization
    • System and applicationoptimization
    • User interfaces and standard dataentry methods
    • Technical and operationsdocumentation standards
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with users andstaff who have a variety of levels of knowledge, skills andresponsibilities:
    • Assist personnel in theoperation of computer systems and applications
    • Develop user, technical and operational training coursesand requirements
    • Prepare documentation,charts, graphs, project plans, training materials and other writtencommunications
    • Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills
  • Professional work habits and demeanor, including:
    • Ability to work independently or with limitedsupervision
    • Ability to work well with peoplefrom different disciplines who may have varying degrees oftechnical expertise
    • Ability to work in a teamenvironment and to contribute to the effective functioning of thatteam
    • Strong computer skills

EXPERIENCE:Minimum Qualifications: RegisteredNurse with a minimum of five years experience, one year of which isOR experience.  Three (3) years of relevant experience insystem applications with a minimum of one (1) year projectimplementation team lead role required. 

Desired Qualifications:Registered Nurse with a minimum of eight yearsexperience.  BSN preferred.  Strong computer skillsrequired.  Five (5) years of progressive responsibility inlarge complex information systems environments with a wide varietyof Healthcare Management Information Systems applicationsrecommended.  Extensive clinical practice preferred.

NATURE OF SUPERVISION:

Responsible to:Director, Surgical Services

ENVIRONMENT:

-Bloodborne pathogen: A

General office and hospitalsetting with exposure to computer room and patient careevironment.

PHYSICAL andSCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Some travel required
  2. May berequired to work outside of normal working hours
  3. May be required to work long hours during criticalproblems or implementations
  4. May be requiredto withhold paid-time off during critical problems orimplementations provided adequate notice is given.
  5. Ability to lift and transfer objects typically not inexcess of 50 lbs.
  6. Extended use of videodisplay terminal and keyboard utilizing sound ergonomic principles.
