POSITIONSUMMARY: The Radiology Informatics Specialistmanages and ensures timely and complete capture of Digital Imagingand communications in Medicine (DICOM) digital Image data into thePACS system. The Radiology Informatics Specialist manages;radiology information systems validation (RIS) and exceptionshandling (occurrences of special condition). The RadiologyInformatics Specialist reports to the Imaging Director/Manager andIS Department with accountability to both the clinical and the ISdepartments.
After completion of additionaltraining in the field of Picture Achieving and CommunicationSystems, and established competence, the Radiology InformaticsSpecialist is able to obtain the position of a PACS Administratorwithin 12 month.
This position also functions asthe Radiology Quality Manager, by overseeing and performing incollaboration with the RSO all QA/QC functions as it relates toregulatory requirements in radiology, as specified by JointCommission and ACR standards.
This positionmust maintain a productive relationship with radiologists,technologists, doctors, department managers, Information Systems,and anyone in a leadership position within the hospital and of siteclinics.
This position supports strategicorganizational goals using information technology to facilitatecustomer service, improve patient care and resolve business relatedproblems. Integral to the role is serving as a key contributor inthe selection of information systems.
Thisposition requires that the administer steps in and performs directpatient care ifrequired.
Requirements
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Graduate ofan accredited program for radiologic technology with a minimum of 6years radiology technology experience. Associate’s Degree required.Bachelor’s degree preferred. Basic PACS experience isrequired.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: ARRT(RT) with current New Mexico State License, and BLS certificationrequired.
SKILLS: Demonstrated experience with current systemsanalysis principles, practices, tools and techniques Knowledge ofand experience with current PACS system and application and designprinciples and concepts, including:
- Technical and operations documentationstandards
Proven ability tocommunicate effectively with users and staff who have a variety oflevels of knowledge, skills and responsibilities:
- Assist personnel in the operation of computersystems and applications
- Develop user,technical and operational training courses andrequirements.
- Prepare documentation, charts,graphs, project plans, training materials and other writtencommunications.
- Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills.
Professionalwork habits and demeanor, including:
- Ability to work independently or with limitedsupervision
- Ability to work well with peoplefrom different disciplines who may have varying degrees oftechnical expertise.
- Ability to work in a teamenvironment and to contribute to the effective functioning of thatteam.
- Strong computer skills
EXPERIENCE:
MinimumQualifications: Technologist with a minimum of threeyears experience using a Picture Archiving and Communication System(PACS). Mechanical aptitude and ability with attention to detailrequired. Clinical experience with emphasis on radiology systemsrequired.
Desired Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree or 5 years PACS Administratorexperience preferred. Strong computer skills required.Biomedical and/or IT experience preferred. Knowledge of McKessonHorizon PACS/CPACS, Cerner RadNet RIS preferred. Project managementexperience strongly preferred.

- May be required to workoutside of normal working hours while on call for issueresolution
- May be required to work long hoursduring critical problems or implementations
- May be required to withhold paid-time off during critical problemsor implementations provided adequate notice is given.
- Ability to lift and transfer objects typically not inexcess of 50 lbs.
- Extended use of videodisplay terminal and keyboard utilizing sound ergonomic principles.
