Job Summary
  • The Stroke Center Manager is accountable for the management of the CoxHealth System stroke program and is responsible for the care of stroke patients throughout the continuum. The manager is the lead facilitator of the multidisciplinary team responsible for stroke care, including hospital departments, physicians, nurses, and all health care professionals. The Manager is responsible for ensuring and supporting continued certification and designation by regulatory bodies. Collaborates with hospitals and professional organizations to facilitate the development of the stroke program: assessing community stroke education needs; participating in meetings as appropriate to assure effective communication; demonstrates effective interpersonal communication skills; provides expertise in the area of stroke specialization; consults with health care institutions and community agencies to meet the needs of the patients, volunteers, and care providers. Implements inpatient stroke related performance improvement plans and processes using evidence based guidelines. Enhances the quality of stroke care by analyzing and utilizing results of performance improvement activities to initiate change. Participates in efforts to minimize costs and unnecessary duplication. Provides community outreach through providing lectures and educational programs to promote stroke awareness. The Stroke Center Manager supervises and provides leadership to stroke center navigators and data registrar.
Job Requirements
  • Education
    • Required: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
    • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Experience
    • Required: 3-5 years’ nursing experience OR 1-2 years nursing leadership experience
    • Preferred: Minimum of five (5) years Neurologic Critical, Emergency care or Neuroscience nursing experience OR previous experience in case management, stroke care and knowledge of community resources, data collection and analysis OR ABNN certification as a neuroscience and/or stroke registered nurse
  • Skills
    • Must be able to work effectively with physicians, staff, public and external agencies
    • Must have the ability to take initiative and to exercise good judgment and decision-making
    • Strong analytical/problem solving skills
    • Critical thinking, conflict management, negotiation and Personnel development
    • Knowledge of current medical terminology
    • Leadership abilities
    • Teaching and communication skills
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration
    • Required: RN License active in the state of Missouri AND NIHSS certification (within 90 days of Hire) AND Alteplase t-PA credentialing (within 90 days of hire)
    • Preferred: ABNN certification as a neuroscience and/or stroke registered nurse

    • Required: BLS must be obtained with 90 days

      Required: Must obtain ACLS within one year of hire
