The LPN will work under the direction of the School Nurse and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being and health management of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Healthcare Coordination:
- Assist the School Nurse in implementing health care plans for students with chronic conditions or special health needs.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers and according to established protocols.
- Monitor students' health conditions and provide immediate assistance during emergencies or health-related incidents.
- Health Assessments:
- Conduct health screenings and assessments to identify students with health concerns or issues.
- Monitor vital signs, observe symptoms, and document health status to support ongoing health management and intervention.
- Health Education and Promotion:
- Educate students, families, and staff on health-related topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
- Support health promotion initiatives within the school community, such as vaccination programs and wellness campaigns.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students, including documentation of treatments, medications administered, and health assessments.
- Prepare reports and communicate effectively with the School Nurse, healthcare providers, and parents regarding students' health status and needs.
- Collaboration and Support:
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to address students' health-related barriers to learning.
- Support a positive and inclusive school environment that prioritizes students' physical and emotional well-being.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program and current LPN licensure in the state of California.
- Experience in pediatric or school nursing preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team, demonstrating compassion and empathy in student care.
