Ensures that allMeat, Seafood and Fresh Produce distributed within our supply chainmeets or exceeds Meijer quality standards and regulatory gradingrequirements. Works collaboratively with the Buying Office, throughthe inspection of incoming and outbound loads at the distributionfacility, working with warehouse staff on product rotation, andcreating weekly recaps and period end assessment reports. Trains,coaches and audits DF audit teams in execution of inspection SOPs(Standard Operating Procedures)..

WhatYou'll Be Doing:

  • Train andcoach DF auditors on proper inspectionprocesses.
  • Audit DF auditors on inspection SOPs(Standard Operating Procedures).
  • Review allfresh product quality issues observed by DF auditors and make thedecision either to accept or reject fresh product based upon USDAand Meijer standards.
  • Partner with the Meat andProduce Buying Teams to address product quality concerns that mayrequire rejection.
  • Inspect and evaluate allinbound produce, meat and seafood loads.
  • Ensurethat fresh commodities meet or exceed Meijer specifications andstandards for quality and temperature control, as well as, USDArequirements for quality.
  • Ensure that bananaspecifications are met on a daily basis prior to shipments leavingthe DF. 
  • Utilizes product quality testequipment to verify fresh product meets minimum governmentrequirements and Meijer specifications.
  • Reportinspection observations to DF Leadership; help facilitatecorrective actions.  
  • Audit the fresh DFin accordance with FDA cGMP guidelines, the DF Food Safety Plan asit pertains to the Preventive Control Rule, and the DF SeafoodHACCP plan.
  • Identify and communicate toauditors produce seasonal trends as related toquality.
  • Perform recall effectiveness checks asrequired.
  • Develop collaborative and effectiverelationships with all levels of DF leadership and buyingteams. 
  • Provide quality assessments thatanalyze and compare fresh produce, meat and seafood supplierproducts against Meijer expectations and standards and reportfindings to the buying team and DFleadership.
  • Utilize quality software programsto assist buying team in assessing potential supplier charge-backsfor product that does not meet Meijer standards.

WhatYou Bring With You(Qualifications):

  • Associatesdegree preferred
  • HACCP and SafeMark Food Safetycertification a plus, but not required.
  • 2+years of produce and or meat and seafood, knowledge of products,and/or 3 years of experience in a quality assuranceposition.
  • Excellent communication skills, bothoral and written.
  • USDA familiarity/knowledgepreferred.
  • PC Skills (Microsoft Office, Excel,Word, etc.).
  • Ability to Multitask; must be ableto organize time efficiently and make decisions based on factualfindings.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in anunstructured work environment.
  • Ability toinfluence and train others and achieve necessaryresults.
  • Quality Assurance is a 7 dayoperation; must be able to work on weekends and holidays or asneeded
