The Data Science team at Meijer leads thestrategy, development and integration of Machine Learning andArtificial Intelligence at Meijer. Data Scientists on the team willdrive customer loyalty, digital conversion, and system efficienciesby delivering innovative data driven solutions. Through thesesolutions, the data scientists drive material business value,mitigating business and operational risk, and significantly impactsthe customer experience. This role works directly with productdevelopment, merchandising, marketing, operations, ITS, ecommerce,and vendor partners. The position will lead, consult or overseemultiple highly complex data science projects/programs/domains thathave significant impacts and require in-depth technical knowledgeacross multiple specific architecture disciplines such astechnology, solution, business, or information/data..

WhatYou'll Be Doing:

  • Deliveragainst the overall data science strategy to drive in-store anddigital merchandising, marketing, customer loyalty, and operationalperformance
  • Partner with product development todefine requirements which meet system and customer experience needsfor data science projects
  • Partner withMerchandising, Supply Chain, Operations and customer insights tounderstand the journey that will be improved with the data sciencedeliverables
  • Build production ready prototypesfor, and iteratively develop, end-to-end data science pipelinesincluding custom algorithms, statistical models, machine learningand artificial intelligence functions to meet end userneeds
  • Partner with product development andtechnology teams to deploy pipelines into production MLOpsenvironment following Safe Agilemethodology
  • You will architect, design, andlead the development and implementation of machine learningalgorithms and models for a data science capability within DigitalServices, Merchandising, Marketing, Supply Chain andOperations.
  • Designs, codes, and implements newindustry leading design patterns in data science, to create theconvention/technique/practice that teams are accountable tofollow.
  • Foster a culture of innovation bykeeping up-to-date with the latest industry trends and researchacross data science, AI and retail.
  • Mentorsdata science teams and promotes a culture of curiosity,accountability, & enthusiasm.
  • Provides datascience strategy to ensure code modernization and industry standardpatterns for data science.
  • Provides guidance todevelopment teams within domain (Commerce, Services orMobile).
  • Leads non-functional requirements(NFRs) such as security, reliability, performance, maintainability,scalability, and usability related to datascience.
  • Promotes the implementation of newtechnology, solutions, and methods to improve business processes,efficiency, effectiveness, and value delivered tocustomers.
  • Proactively identify data drivensolutions for strategic cross-functional initiatives, develop andpresent business cases, and gain stakeholder alignment ofsolution
  • Responsible to define, document &follow best practices & approve for ML/AI development atMeijer
  • Own communication with data consumers(internal and external) to ensure they understand the data scienceproducts, have the proper training, and are following the bestpractices in application of data scienceproducts
  • Define and analyze Key PerformanceIndicators to monitor the usage, adoption, health and value of thedata products
  • Identify and scope, inconjunction with IT, the architecture of systems and environmentneeds to ensure that data science systems can deliver againststrategy
  • Build and maintain relationships withkey partners, suppliers and industry associations and continue toadvance data science capabilities, knowledge andimpact

Education:

  • AdvancedDegree (MA/MS, PhD) in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics,Statistics, Economics, or related quantitative field
  • Certifications: AzureData Science Associate, Azure AI, SafeAgile

WhatYou Bring with You(Qualifications):

  • 8+ yearsof relevant data science experience in an applied role – preferablew/in retail, logistics, supply chain or CPG with a focus on NLP andAI
  • Advanced and hands on experience using:Python, Databricks, Azure ML, Azure Cognitive Service, Ads DataHub, BIQuery, SAS, R, SQL, PySpark, Numpy, Pandas, Scikit Learn,TensorFlow, PyTorch, AutoTS, Prophet,NLTK
  • Experience with Azure Cloud technologiesincluding Azure DevOps, Azure Synapse, MLOps,GitHub
  • Solid experience working with largedatasets and developing ML/AI systems such as: natural languageprocessing, speech/text/image recognition, supervised andunsupervised learning models, forecasting and/or econometric timeseries models
  • Developed efficient and effectivesolutions to diverse and complex businessproblems
  • Technical team leadershipexperience.
  • Experience in Scaled Agileframework is preferred.

  • Ability to collaborate with, andpresent to internal and externalpartners
  • Experience in the retail industry orin a production/service environment ispreferred.
