The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Data Scientist to work as part of a multidiscipline analytic team that enables comprehensive efforts to counter adversary nuclear, chemical, biological, and delivery system programs and nefarious global proliferation and procurement trends. This candidate will routinely identifies unique and large data sets relevant to broader analytic efforts and devises and executes the exploitation of the data in order to contribute tangibly to all-source analyses. This person will serve as a data science advisor and contributor within a multi-functional team of analysts and planners and supports wide-ranging analytic efforts by processing structured and unstructured data to identify trends, related entities, patterns, and processes. The data scientist will be proficient at eliciting requirements from analytic team members and identifying and characterizing data sets that substantively enhance all-source analyses related to foreign miliary and counterproliferation topics, including but not limited to adversary WMD programs, weapons-related S&T developments, and/or arms transfers.  This position conducts data analytics, data engineering, data mining, exploratory analysis, predictive analysis, and statistical analysis, and uses scientific techniques to correlate data into graphical, written, visual and verbal narrative products, enabling more informed analytic decisions.

Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. This position is contingent upon contract award with an anticipated start date in November 2024.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, operations research, engineering, computer science, or related field.
  • 8 years of experience identifying, processing, exploiting, and disseminating diverse data sets in order to identify trends, related entities, patterns, and processes that enable broad analytic efforts
  • Practical understanding of machine learning techniques and advanced statistical modeling techniques.
  • Demonstrate current familiarity – experience within the last two years – using data analysis software/applications such as Microsoft Office (Power BI), Tableau, R, Python, SAS, or MATLAB, or other coding platforms to enable all-source analyses.
  • Ability to work with subject matter experts to identify information of value within diverse datasets and create tools to process, extract, and disseminate information of value.
  • Experience briefing data-driven PED reports and products to intelligence analysts, military planners, operational entities, and research and development audiences.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis, apply data mining techniques, and build high quality prediction systems.
  • Experience generating reports, models, and visualizations that characterize datasets and enhance utility of data to all-source analysts.
  • Ability to work efficiently with large data multi-INT analytics, ML, and automated predictive analytics and experience devising and building ML and AI tools that automate certain processes.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance; willingness to take a polygraph exam.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree and/or specialized coursework in data science, statistics, computer science, or related field.
  • Familiarity with designing, implementing, and operating data management systems for intelligence needs.
  • Ability to work with data users to determine, create, and populate optimal data architectures, structures, and systems.
  • Understanding of the Defense Intelligence Enterprise, DIA, and Service intelligence production centers.
  • Experience collaborating with the Intelligence Community, Defense Department, national labs, and academia to identify, devise, and apply data solutions that address WMD- and proliferation-related threat issues.
