Position Description:

The Test Engineer II reports to the Engineering Manager for the Rockbridge facility. She/he works within the Engineering Department to design, develop, and document Chiller and other system tests within the scope of products manufactured by the Data Center team. This position will be responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the development laboratories. The laboratories support the both the North American Data Center market as well as products that span Climate Solution Regions (Americas, EMEA, and Asia).​​​​

Key Responsibilities:​​​

  • Implement engineering principles to safely achieve and maintain customer requested test conditions for various test articles with new or current test equipment.

  • Develop specialized skills unique to specific test equipment to understand its operation (temperature/pressure/flow instrumentation, data acquisition…)

  • Analyze infrastructure capabilities vs. test equipment needs

  • Troubleshoot test equipment when equipment unable to achieve desired inputs or outputs. Request quotes and justify repairs, than make arrangements to implement and document repairs.

  • Generate and maintain test equipment preventive maintenance documentation

  • Maintain test equipment for efficient use of utilities (natural gas, water, compressed air, electrical…)

  • Research, justify and implement new products and technology in test laboratories

  • Establish calibration needs for test equipment, approve calibration certificates

  • Design & develop new data manipulation and reporting procedures that meet quality and customer needs

  • Write and approve test reports (confirm accuracy, test conditions…) after testing completed

  • Standardize test set ups and instrumentation procedures

  • Responsible for the training of technicians and other engineers as assigned

  • Support other engineers and designers in test, verification & validation of projects related to design.

  • Effectively supports quality document creation and maintenance (Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Nonconformance Corrective Action Reports (NCARs), Work Instructions (WI)…)​​​​

Required Qualifications:​​​

  • Experience in the test engineering with a strong fundamental background and/or experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics and psychometrics preferred

  • Experience specifically with Chiller, HVAC, or unitary design especially those dealing with sheet metal
    is a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external personnel

  • Sound judgment, tack and diplomacy

  • Sound project management skills

  • High level of initiative

  • Positive work ethic

  • Organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail

  • Working knowledge of Lab View and Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong analysis and problem solving skills​

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years engineering experience or Master's degree with 1+ years engineering experience​​

Travel​

  • Less then 10% travel requirement
