Work Week

Full-time | 40 hours | Flexible schedule required to meet department needs, including day, some evenings, and Saturdays will be required.

Work Week Locations

Four days/week Harvard High School; One day/week McHenry County College and may vary as needed.

Position Summary

Responsible for recruiting Upward Bound participants; providing academic and personal counseling; planning, implementing, and chaperoning students at workshops and trips; advising on college admission and financial aid; recruiting and training summer residential staff; completing written student evaluations. This position also provides administrative, professional, technical, and operational support through independent judgment, analytical skill, and professional or technical expertise. This person possesses the ability to travel between MCC, Harvard High School, and other planned event sites.Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Provide academic, career, and college admission advising to Upward Bound participants utilizing a variety of proactive delivery modes, providing accurate and timely information to new, current, and previously enrolled students.Responsible for program recruitment efforts: conducting regular oral presentations at target schools, community events and other relevant outreach programs. Assist with interviewing potential participants and ensure all participants met the necessary eligibility requirements as established by the U.S. Department of Education.Dedicate on-going attention to personal professional development and remain current with U.S. Department of Education's regulations regarding TRiO Programs to ensure compliance with grant requirements.Monitor and record attendance and academic performance of students and assist the Director of the Upward Bound Program in the management of information in the database to ensure compliance with the Department of Education’s regulations.Develop a personal education plan (PEP) for participants in a designated grade level, including transcript evaluation, academic and extracurricular activity advising, and social/personal/academic intervention.Monitor student progress toward established educational goals.Collaborate with both target school personnel (high school staff) and MCC (community college) staff to develop workshops and seminars aimed at enhancing student engagement and academic success.Conduct individual and group advising.Act as the liaison between the program and parents, target school personnel, community representatives, and post-secondary institutions.Coordinate and facilitate academic support programs including advising, workshops, assessment, and follow-up as well as resource referral.Assist with all aspects of the planning of the six-week Summer Program; this includes onsite residence with students for a designated period of time and assisting in supervising and enforcing program rules.Develop, plan and chaperone activities, events, field trips and college tours.Maintain documentation in student records that is objective, complete, and accurate.Participate in training new advisors.Work collaboratively with others (e.g., colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities.Drive a community college van, bus, or rental vehicle for program activities/events, ensuring safe transportation of students and staff to off-campus events, field trips, and other designated locations.Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution preferably in education, social work, or related field.Experience working with students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.One year of related experience (e.g., advising, teaching, counseling).
