Soliant Education is seeking a qualified Sign Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our team in the Palos Hills, IL area This full-time, on-site position for the 2024-2025 school year offers a unique chance to make a significant impact on the lives of deaf and hard-of-hearing students by fostering their communication skills and academic success within an elementary school environment.

What You'll Do:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to assess the auditory, receptive, and expressive language skills of deaf and hard-of-hearing students in the elementary grades.
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's specific communication needs, utilizing American Sign Language (ASL) and other appropriate communication modalities.
  • Provide individual and small group therapy sessions to address a range of language development needs, including:
    • Expressive and receptive ASL skills
    • Early literacy development
    • Pragmatic language skills (social communication)
    • Auditory development and training (when applicable)
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and other professionals to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment that promotes communication access and academic success for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Consult with general education and special education teachers on strategies to integrate ASL and support the language development of deaf and hard-of-hearing students within the classroom setting.
  • Monitor student progress, analyze data, and report on the effectiveness of interventions to inform ongoing therapy plans.
  • Stay current on best practices in sign language pathology for deaf and hard-of-hearing students through professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Illinois State License in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).
  • Prior experience working with deaf and hard-of-hearing students in an elementary school setting is highly preferred.
  • Strong clinical skills in assessment, intervention planning, and therapy delivery for children with hearing loss.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Expertise in early language development and literacy skills for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, parents, and school staff across diverse grade levels.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting on student progress.
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion in the school environment.
  • Passion for helping deaf and hard-of-hearing students develop their communication skills and achieve academic success in an elementary school setting.
