The Climate and Energy Manager will support our globalclimate change targets by updating and implementing our NorthAmerican decarbonization roadmap to drive energy cost savings andreduce carbon usage.

This position on thesustainability team will coordinate across departments to create aunified, integrated climate strategy.  Additionally, thisposition will facilitate implementation of our climate plan bymanaging energy and capital investment.  An ideal candidateholds a big picture perspective that aligns our climate work withoverarching corporate goals and objectives.

Job Functions:

Climate strategy &reporting

  • Support ourglobal science-based target commitments by updating our NorthAmerican climate roadmap with insights and buy-in fromcross-functional teams
  • Collaborate withinternal stakeholders to develop operational plans for utilitiesand diesel usage, focusing on cost savings, carbon performance andcommercial benefits
  • Directly accountable forquarterly and annual Scope 1 and 2 reporting and components offuture scope 3 requirements
  • Build dashboardsand reporting on key climate roadmap metrics
  • Set governance processes to review our performanceagainst forecasts
  • Futureproof the businessagainst new legislation and regulatory energy standards

EnergyManagement

  • Manageutility budgeting and carbon performance processes, annualforecasting and financial and usage reporting
  • Create an energy management plan, including sub-meteringapproach, proactive outlier and exception management, and energycontrols systems
  • Drive an integrated,efficient climate program where fleet, warehouse operations andcentralized energy management are aligned and efficient
  • Develop innovative solutions in response to variousregional legislation and assist warehouses/operations to reduceenergy usage and transition to alternative energy sources (on-sitegeneration, on-site storage, PPAs, etc.), whereappropriate
  • Work together with key internaland external stakeholders on fleet optimization and carbonreduction opportunities (alternative fuel strategies, EV trials,energy demand, etc.) for a coordinated effort across NorthAmerica
  • Align with real estate team on ourwarehouse portfolio and energy contract clauses
  • Interact with utilities consulting partner to manage ourenergy procurement efforts

Capital Investment

  • Lead an annual utilities investment programthat complements our strategy and maximizes returns
  • Manage an annual capital investment program, fromplanning, gaining approval, managing delivery andpost-implementation evaluation
  • Develop aninnovation pipeline to support our energy plan
  • Protect the business from variable energy costs and havea full understanding of external financing options available to thebusiness
  • Identify sites withdisproportionately high consumption (driven by asset age,condition, type and performance) and work with internalstakeholders, such as real estate and operations teams to designcapital investment projects to reduce consumption and decarbonizeour operations

 Requirements:

Essential

  • 5+ years’ experience in utilities,environmental management or related area preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science,sustainability or an analytical field from a four-year accrediteduniversity or college required.
  • Excellentanalytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability tointerpret complex data sets and identify trends, patterns, andinaccuracies.
  • Ability to influence withoutdirect authority.
  • Comfortable dealing withambiguity.
  • Strong project managementskills.
  • Ability to collaboratecross-functionally and develop strong workingrelationships.
  • Self-driven to succeed with theability to make a positive impact on businessresults. 
  • Ability to translatequantitative data into qualitative messages.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to dataaccuracy and integrity.

Desirable

  • Passion and curiosity for sustainable businesspractices
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel or otherdatabasing software to organize data, develop data models foranalysis, and create visualizations. Power BI experience aplus.
  • Experience with changemanagement.
  • Experience managing a capitalinvestment program.
  • Working knowledge ofGreenhouse Gas Protocol
  • Experience or trainingin GHG Emission Inventory Management
  • Excellentinterpersonal and influencing skills when working with externalvendors/suppliers and customers
  • Ability towork collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholdersat various levels of the organization
  • Abilityto keep organized and handle multiple workflows
