Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) - Danville, IL (School Year Contract)

Are you a passionate educator dedicated to helping deaf and hard of hearing students succeed?

We are seeking a qualified Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our team in Danville, IL (located 30 miles east of Champaign) for the upcoming school year (August 12, 2024 - May 30, 2025). This is a full-time position (35 hours per week) working with students across multiple buildings within our school district.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students in a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and related service providers to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with state and federal guidelines.
  • Utilize effective communication strategies, including sign language and spoken language, to ensure student comprehension.
  • Facilitate the development of listening and spoken language skills for students who benefit from this approach.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and document learning outcomes.
  • Consult with parents and families to ensure a comprehensive approach to student success.
  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education and attend professional development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Endorsement.
  • Strong understanding of deafness and hard of hearing, including communication development, educational needs, and cultural perspectives.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant communication methods.
  • Experience working with deaf and hard of hearing students in a school setting (preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment that celebrates student individuality.
