Position Summary:

Upward Bound is a federally funded program that provides services designed to improve academic, career, and personal skills to prepare first-generation (neither parent has a four-year degree) and low-income high school students to be successful in high school and college. The Tutors will be responsible for assisting students in enhancing their skills in all subject areas that will prepare 9th -12th grade students for their current academic classes, and the SAT/ACT exams.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Provide tutorial assistance as assigned.

2. Assist students in the development of study skills necessary for successful completion of courses

3. Maintain accurate and current documentation concerning student contact and progress.

4. Maintain contact with staff and faculty as required.

5. Refer students to Upward Bound staff for information or assistance with issues such as academic (advisement, juggling family, work and school, stress and time management, self-esteem and independence, study skills), career exploration, and transfer assistance.

6. Conduct tutoring sessions in designated areas for scheduled time periods.

7. Provide assistance to staff members to research, implement, and maintain the tutoring component in order to improve the tutoring program.

8. Attend mandatory trainings and webinars.

9. Other duties as reasonably assigned by Upward Bound Director and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

College Sophomore with a GPA of 3.0 in the targeted subject matter.

Anticipated Work Hours and Days:

Tutoring during the academic year will be held at two separate campuses of Rich East High School- Fine Arts Center and the STEM Center. The tentative availability needed for the academic year tutoring is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 3:30pm-6:30pm. Tutoring during the Saturday Academy, Summer Academy and Summer Bridge will be held at Prairie State College. Availability needed for the Saturday Academy Saturday 9:00am-1:00pm.
