Job Title:Histology Technologist

Department:James | Martha Morehouse Medical Plaza Lab

Scope of Position

The James Clinical Lab Svcs Technician provide histological services to the Dermatology Department physicians performing MOHS surgeries at the Martha Morehouse Tower and additional support to the histology laboratory located within the division of Surgical Pathology. The Clinical Lab Svcs Technician will be responsible for processes involving, embeds, sorts, cuts, files, and stains slides of tissue samples for diagnosis by physicians and surgical pathologists. This staff member reports to the Director of the Dermatology Department Lab and to the James Clinical Laboratory Manager.

The James Dermatology Lab is staffed Monday through Friday as needed to provide services as Mohs surgeries are scheduled.

Position Summary

The Clinical Lab Svcs Technician provides histological services to the Dermatology Department and to the main Histology Lab. This position is responsible for ensures that tissue specimens are optimally processed, oriented and embedded appropriately (according to tissue type) during MOHS procedures. Histology duties involve logging-in specimens to the computer, processing, embedding, frozen sections, sorting, cutting, filing, reagent preparation, special stains and staining slides of tissue samples. Additional duties involve general paperwork, equipment maintenance, assisting with quality control and assurance metrics, procedural audits, accreditation preparation, training and troubleshoot both mechanical and human errors and/or malfunctions.

Minimum Education Required
2-Year College Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required; HTL or other technologist-level special laboratory certification required; graduate of a NAACLS accredited histotechnician or histotechnologist program preferred; at least three year to five years experience in a histology laboratory preferred. Requires successful completion of a background check; selected candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment physical, including a drug screen. Prefer MOHs experience.
