Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Alumnae/i Events.
About the Role
The Director of Alumnae/i Events plays a leading role in shaping the full potential of Hollins’ alumnae/i network, and in doing so, has a deep impact on the future of Hollins. This position is responsible for creating, strengthening, and executing events and programs that build alumnae/i dedication, engagement, and support (giving) for university Institutional Advancement priorities. This includes designing, managing, implementing, and evaluating unique alumnae/i engagement events; supporting a robust volunteer program; and collaborating with colleagues to find meaningful ways to engage and grow volunteer participation.
As a member of the Alumnae/i Relations team, the director is responsible for strategically increasing engagement with Hollins’ 10,000+ alumnae/i through on- and off-site events designed to further develop the institution’s alumnae/i community. This encompasses providing strategic direction, administrative oversight, and leadership of all events, as well as taking responsibility for the management of Hollins’ alumnae/i engagement efforts designed to cultivate more purposeful, meaningful, and impactful relations with its alumnae/i.
The Director of Alumnae/i Events reports to the Associate Vice President for Alumnae/i Engagement and Strategic Initiatives and supervises one (1) student worker during the academic year and 16-20 student workers leading up to and during Reunion (March – June).
Specific duties include the following:
- Increase alumnae/i engagement, exposure, and philanthropy through unique and engaging events and programs
- Provide vision, leadership, and oversight to a robust offering of alumnae/i events and programs
- Support alumnae/i with events in a meaningful way with a goal to grow engagement and giving
- Develop and execute event plans
- Manage and monitor event budgets
- Activate volunteers
- Supervise student workers
- Collaborate with campus partners for successful and engaging events
- Seek new opportunities for events that support the financial future of Hollins
Position Qualifications
Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of three years of event planning experience
- Minimum of two years of volunteer management experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent detail, accuracy, organizational, and project management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Access
- Demonstrated ability to maintain extensive and sustained work with internal and external constituencies
- Abilities to be proactive, prioritize, problem-solve, meet deadlines, work independently and on a team, and exercise sound judgement
- Abilities to maintain confidentiality and exhibit discernment related to confidential and sensitive matters
- Ability and willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed
- Valid United States driver’s license with minimal violations
Preferred candidates will have the following:
- Higher education experience
- Supervisory experience
- Knowledge of Ellucian Banner or similar database
- Knowledge of Encompass or similar database
