Job Summary:You must be a current UK student to apply to this position. This position is located off-campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK.
The Substitute Teacher plays an integral role in the instructional program by helping to provide high quality instruction that meets the needs of each child. This person will provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Substitutes supervise students in a variety of school-related settings and activities and monitor and
evaluate when appropriate and specified by the classroom teacher- student performance.
Substitutes follow required school policies and procedures and are expected to embrace the
School’s Mission and Philosophy in daily interactions with all members of The Lexington School Community.
•Follow the lesson plans created by the Teacher.
• Maintains Order and Discipline in the classroom by supervising students in a variety of school related
settings and activities.
• Participate in Staff Development when informed by a Division Head.
• Ensure copies of Teacher/Class schedule and emergency/drill procedures are present for reference.
• At end of day, complete a report form [provided by administrative assistants] and leave it in the
classroom for the returning Teacher. This should include attendance, behavioral issues, any parts of a lesson plan not completed and any other special circumstances experienced.
• Perform other related duties as assigned based on School need.
• Use of personal cell phones, laptops, iPads, and any other personal electronic device is prohibited when supervising students, unless there is an emergency.
• Leave the classroom neat and orderly.
• Refrain from posting any pictures or messages from your time spent in the classroom on personal social media.
A Substitute Teacher receives a call about 6am if the school has openings to fill for that day. You can accept or decline the opening based on your availability. If you accept, generally you would be asked to arrive at the school no later than 7:45am and may depart once students are dismissed about 3:45pm. There are times when a job is a partial day and that would be communicated at the time the scheduler calls. If you have grade/subject matter preferences, you need to communicate that at the time of hire. 2024-25 school year runs from August 21 ,2024 through May 30, 2025. While there is no minimum/maximum number of jobs you have to accept to stay active, we encourage you to at least accept 4 jobs in a school year to stay active.
• Ability to clear a nationwide criminal background check prior to working with students.
• Ability to accurately record time worked and report any discrepancies to payroll immediately.
• Ability to wear professional dress (no jeans unless informed it is a “Jeans Day”).
• Ability to help students to develop problem-solving, appropriate risk-taking, social, and self-regulation skills.
• Ability to prioritize job expectations effectively by managing time and, as appropriate, setting goals.
• Ability to keep all information regarding students absolutely confidential.
• Ability to follow Teacher/Class schedule and emergency/drill procedures.
