Eligibility and Employer Sponsored Plans can be found within each of the links offered.Job City & State:Chapel Hill, NCClassification Title:Temporary-Service MaintenanceWorking Title:UTS - Temporary Auxiliary Operator at UNC Chapel HillWork Schedule:Sunday – Saturday | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or Sunday – Saturday | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AMOther Work/Responsibilities:Essential Duties and Responsibilities:A successful Auxiliary Operator ensures safe and efficient operation of the power plant, related auxiliaries, and balance of plant systems from outside the control room.Performs start-up, operation, and shutdown of equipment, systems, and the plant in accordance with approved plant procedures, technical manuals and as directed by the Control Room Operator.Monitor and record local operating parameters, adjusting as required to maintain safe and efficient operation.Supports the Control Room Operators in the proper operation of the facility with minimal guidance or assistance. Competently operates and maintains all plant equipment. Capable of operating plant equipment locally via PLC panel interfaces. Communicates plant issues and keeps Control Room Operators fully informed of plant operations, unusual conditions, and faulty equipment.Fully supports the use of a computerized maintenance management system by displaying proficiency in using the system, entering data consistent with the facility maintenance philosophy.There is is possibility of overtime. (Very likely each month)Rotating schedule expected once training is complete.Shift 1 :Sunday – Saturday | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PMShift 2: Sunday – Saturday | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AMMinimum Experience/Education:A high school diploma or GED is required.2+ years of industry experienceDepartment Required Skills:Proper operations and maintenance of the power facility.Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required.Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.The ability to read and understand company programs, policies, procedures, and instructions.Knowledge of equipment isolation and tagging procedures.Subcontractors must have a valid North Carolina State Contractor’s license.Physical Requirements:Ability to walk, reach, climb, stoop, and lift (up to 75 pounds) with or without reasonable accommodation..Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:A high school diploma or GED is required.2+ years of industry experienceRequired License or Certification:Subcontractors must have a valid North Carolina State Contractor’s licenseNC Drivers LicenseValid NC Driver's License required?:YesCommercial Driver's License Required?:NoAnticipated Hiring Range:$28.00/hourlyJob Open Date:11/26/2025Quick Link:https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings/225278EEO:NC State University is an equal opportunity employer.
