Job Description:


The Dean R. Sanders '47 School of Business is looking for dynamic, experienced, student-centered adjunct faculty to teach an Hospitality course during the Spring 2025 semester. The School seeks adjunct faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.



The School of Business is seeking applicants to teach HMGT 390: Convention Event Management, which is scheduled as an in person course on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM. The course description is: Designed for students passionate about orchestrating memorable experiences, this course covers the essential elements of planning, managing, and executing successful conventions and events. Students will explore key topics such as event logistics, budgeting, venue selection, marketing strategies, and risk management. Through case studies, hands-on projects, and guest speaker sessions, participants will gain practical skills and insights into industry best practices.



An additional requirement for this course will be to plan and execute the College's annual Women in Business Conference on March 21, 2025. As part of this course, the instructor will


  • Have students plan and execute our annual Women in Business conference in March 2025.
  • Help students build their event management network.


This is a 3-credit class that meets for 2.5 hours/week with a pay rate of $3,300/course. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The business program provides a course charter with course objectives as well as sample syllabi. The adjunct faculty member will be required to build course material and content to further students' knowledge in event planning. All adjunct faculty are expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.



Requirements:


  • Master's degree, required.
  • Background in event planning and/or hospitality management preferred.
  • Must be able to teach in person and be present for the Women in Business Conference, on March 21, 2025.
  • Experience teaching at the college level in person, preferred.
  • Strong computer skills and experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy.
  • Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles.
