The Academic Instructor, PRN (As Needed Basis) providesinstruction in basic education subjects such as mathematics,science, social studies, reading, writing and language arts, tohelp inmates/students learn skills that will contribute to theirdevelopment as mature, responsible citizens.  The AcademicInstructor maintains a positive learning environment, adoptingsecure classroom management practices, and develops levelappropriate lesson plans.

  • Prepare course objectives following curriculumstandards and applicable requirements bycontract
  • Plan a program of study, lessonplans, assignments, and tests under generalsupervision.Provides instruction using course outline, handouts andtexts, audiovisual aids and othermaterials.Administer tests to evaluate students' progress andcompetency with subjectmatter.
  • Assist students with individualized instruction asneeded.

Qualifications: 

  • Graduate from anaccredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree isrequired.
  • Must possess certificateor license in accordance with Tennessee Department of Educationstandards to teach in state of employment.  

  • Continued employment in this position will becontingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agencycredentials.

  • Three years of classroominstruction experience ispreferred.
  • Experience in MicrosoftOffice applications isrequired.
  • A valid driver's licenseis required.
  • Minimum age requirement:Must be at least 18 years of age
