The AcademicInstructor provides instruction in basic education subjects suchas mathematics, science, social studies, reading, writing andlanguage arts, to help inmates/students learn skills that willcontribute to their development as mature, responsiblecitizens.  The Academic Instructor maintains a positivelearning environment, adopting secure classroom managementpractices, and develops level appropriate lessonplans. 

  • Prepare course objectives following curriculumstandards and applicable requirements bycontract
  • Plan a program of study, lessonplans, assignments, and tests under generalsupervision.Provides instruction using course outline, handouts andtexts, audiovisual aids and othermaterials.Administer tests to evaluate students' progress andcompetency with subjectmatter.
  • Assist students withindividualized instruction asneeded.

Qualifications:  

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university witha Bachelor's degree isrequired.
  • A teaching license ispreferred.Must possess certificate or license in accordance withTennessee Department of Education standards to teach in state ofemployment.Continued employment in this position will becontingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining required agencycredentials.  Three years of classroom instruction experience ispreferred.  Experience in Microsoft Office applications isrequired.  Avalid driver's license isrequired.
  • Minimum agerequirement:  Must be at least 18 years ofage.
