GS-05 Duties:

Independently researches, develops, and presents curriculum-based education and interpretive programs such as guided hikes, talks, walks, evening programs, kayak trips, and various other programs about park resources. Interpretive programs often cover complex and controversial natural history and cultural themes. Programs employ appropriate interpretive techniques and devices geared to the characteristics and interests of particular audiences. Coordinates with other NPS offices, concessionaires, and essential cooperators. Provides interpretive and informational support services such as cleaning and maintaining equipment, designing interpretive displays, maintaining bulletin boards, clerical work, and keeping statistical records.

GS-07 Duties:

You will serve as a front-line representative of the National Park Service in providing curriculum-based education programs for students from K-12 and adult learners. You will conduct curriculum-based programs and coach GS-05 staff in leading walking, tram, canoe, and overnight programming in different areas of Everglades National Park. Operational duties include: research, develop, and present formal interpretive programs to include curriculum-based education programs, demonstrations, illustrated lectures/talks, walking tours, canoe tours, and tram tours in English and Spanish; coaching and auditing peers' education and interpretive programs; staff Zoo Miami's Mission Everglades exhibit on various weekends; attend a seasonal training session to become acquainted with the biological and historical resources of the park; attend special community and park events as a National Park Service representative; communicate with teachers and educators to coordinate programming; and participate in safety planning and meetings.

The incumbent will be working in a team setting to provide educational opportunities to students. They will independently research, prepare, and present curriculum-based Environmental Education programs to primarily 4th - 6th grade students from urban areas and surrounding communities. Additional interpretive programs may include, but are not limited to, offsite school and community programs and special in-park programs for adults and students. The duties of this position require conversational fluency in the Spanish language, in addition to English. The incumbent must have the ability to swim sufficiently to self-rescue, paddle a canoe, re-enter a swamped canoe without assistance from others or landing at a dock or beach. The incumbent will be asked to assist in various aspects of program administration. This will include writing and developing curriculum materials, provide assistance during teacher workshops, preparing facilities for use, fulfilling special program requests, and generating program documents.

At the GS-07 level the incumbent must be able to train, influence, and motivate co-workers and volunteers.
