Position Overview
The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Environmental Specialist in the Department of Emergency Management. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under general supervision, performs professional-level work assisting with the coordination of the City’s Environmental Management Programs; coordinates community outreach events; assists with compliance and regulatory reporting in assigned program areas; and performs related work as assigned.

Salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in environmental management, environmental engineering, environmental science, or closely related field
  • One (1) year of work experience in environmental compliance and/or training of environmental programs OR coursework completed directly related to environmental compliance and/or environmental programs
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
  • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must obtain and maintain an Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification within six (6) months from the date of appointment and as condition of continued employment
  • Must complete Underground Storage Tank (UST) A/B/C Operator Training, as defined by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) and Energy Policy Act of 2005 for underground tanks regulated under NAC 459.9921 to 459.999 (and the federal UST regulations at 40 CFR §§ 280.10 to 280.116 as implemented by the State of Nevada) within six (6) months from the date of appointment
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
  • Desirable: Two (2) years of work experience in environmental compliance and/or training of environmental programs

The assessment and selection process for this position will take place on the dates listed above.
