DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Develop tools and fixtures working from drawings, sketches and written specifications.  Create tooling designs with the use of CAD as required.  Operate machine tools and perform machining operations on tools that require very close tolerances.  Use all machinist's hand tools and measuring instruments and work within company programs such as the Engineering Change (EC) system.  Requires a good understanding of mathematics and a familiarity with the working properties of metals and other materials.

PRIMARY TASKS:

Plan, layout and perform diversified work in the design and building of die sets, position fixtures, and drill jigs. Develop tool and fixture designs with the use of Cad as required to produce good quality parts. Repair a variety of complex tools, dies, jigs, gauges and fixtures.  This includes sharpening and modifying of die set components for hard tools used in Punch Press applications. Set up and operate various machine tools such as engine lathes, jig borers, surface grinders, and milling machines.  May involve difficult machining operations, requiring close tolerances and complicated set ups. Perform all positions of welding using stick, mig, and tig on various types of metals.  Assist with duties provided in the Custom Model Shop. Responsible for maintaining tools within the tooling development area. Recommend proper tools or equipment to enhance related job functions and give feedback on manufacturability of products to reduce cost or increase consistency. Work effectively with other personnel using good human relation skills.  Convey information in a positive and helpful manner. Use equipment in a proper and safe manner and maintain housekeeping standards in accordance with company policy. Perform job assignments with minimal supervision.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or equivalent and requires specialized training, including the use of Cad.

Requires over 5 years experience in related job function.  Machining experience or education/training in related field is preferred.

Must have the mobility and strength for lifting of awkward components as necessary.

Use of personal protective devices may be required, including hearing protection and safety shoes.
