Project Overview:

Bechtel Manufacturing & Technology (M&T) is seeking individuals to fill Field Commissioning and Startup Management roles supporting a number of prospects within the semiconductor, electric vehicle, and data center business lines. Potential prospects provide an opportunity to engage in fast-paced, complex, and innovative project delivery to support industry growth for the long-term.

 

Job Summary:

In this job, you will be responsible for all startup and/or facility operation activities carried out on project. You'll make authoritative decisions and recommendations on related activities and negotiate major issues with top-level engineers and officers of client companies. You'll be accountable for the quality of startup services and the timely and profitable completion of startup activities on project.  #LI-MJ1

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the startup and operations activities on one or multiple large complex projects
  • Plans and manages startup assignments on a major project on which there are unique problems in schedule, finance, construction, or design, or on multiple smaller projects as assigned
  • Possesses technical responsibility for organizing, executing, and coordinating these assignments
  • Makes day-to-day decisions within assigned area or project and makes recommendations to department or project management regarding policy procedure
  • Reviews project designs and makes recommendation of changes to design so that the project(s) are safe and operable
  • May direct startup operations on a project at the jobsite location
  • Participates in proposal preparation activities as required
  • Manages the preparation of operations manuals
  • Ensures that work being performed is within scope of services and within budget
  • Provides input to project management, engineering, and construction to ensure startup requirements are incorporated into project activities, including review of project designs and construction to ensure plant operability and operating personnel safety
  • Prepares and manages safety, health, and environmental compliance programs
  • Coordinates with client representatives to obtain approval on work as it is accomplished
  • Reviews and approves key startup methods, procedures, and schedules on assigned project(s)
  • Conducts performance appraisals for personnel supervised and ensures that they receive appropriate technical assistance and on-the-job training for their professional development
  • Keeps abreast of technological developments and trends in startup and operating services within area of responsibility

 

Education and Experience Requirements: 

Level One:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience, with 10 years of experience related to M&T industries
  • Broad progressive work experience including supervisory experience at a management level preferably in startup and plant operations, various phases of engineering including design, field construction, or plant operation in large utility, process, or industrial facilities.

Level Two:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 18+ years of relevant experience or 22+ years of relevant work experience, with 15 years of experience related to M&T industries
  • Extensive progressive work experience including supervisory experience at a management level preferably in startup and plant operations, various phases of engineering including design, field construction, or plant operation in large utility, process, or industrial facilities.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive technical knowledge of startup and plant operations methods and practices, calculations, applications of engineering methods, and general applications of computers to engineering problems.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria in all the areas of startup.
  • Extensive knowledge of administrative practices.
  • Ability to participate with interactions which frequently involve special skills, such as negotiating with customers or management or attempting to influence senior management regarding matters of significance to the organization
  • Ability to partner with senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives
  • Ability to recognize that erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional, division, or company operations
