POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Commercial/SBA Credit Analyst  will work within the Business Lending department and will work with the Commercial Loan Officer to assist in underwriting new Commercial/SBA real estate loans, business lines of credit, commercial vehicle loans, term loans and business credit cards along with managing  the business lending loan portfolio’s existing lending relationships. Responsibilities will include conducting underwriting due diligence, financial analysis of borrowers and guarantors, preparation of quarterly and annual credit reviews, monitoring covenant compliance, risk ratings and credit quality of the portfolio, and other activities in support of the credit unions overall goals.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviewing and spreading financial statements
  • Conduct thorough analysis of financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant data to assess the creditworthiness of individuals and businesses.
  • Evaluate the financial health of borrowers by analyzing their income, debt levels, and liquidity.
  • Assess the risk associated with extending credit and make recommendations for credit approvals or rejections.
  • Prepare detailed credit reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor and manage the credit exposure of existing borrowers by reviewing financial statements and conducting periodic risk assessments.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, economic indicators, and regulatory changes that may impact credit risk.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as sales and underwriting, to gather and analyze necessary information for credit evaluations.
  • Provide guidance and support to business lending team
  • Develop and maintain relationships with members, ensuring clear communication and understanding of credit terms and conditions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of credit policies, procedures, and risk assessment models to improve overall credit management.
  • Applies knowledge of SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to evaluate loan applications for accuracy, completeness, and eligibility.
  • Performs analysis of financial statement spreads and repayment capacity for borrowers, affiliate business entities, and corporate and personal guarantors.
  • Reviews business and personal credit reports, as well as industry and market data.
  • Identifies and properly mitigates all risks associated with each assigned SBA application.
  • Prepares an appropriately detailed credit memorandum outlining terms and conditions for loan closing, summarizing financial and business analysis, and addressing mitigation of all identified risks.
  • Demonstrates excellent working knowledge of all systems utilized by the department.
  • Provides service that aligns with the Credit Union’s mission of passionately delivering relevant products, services, and education tailored to help our members, employees, and communities achieve their financial goals.
  • Must comply with applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and laws enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and draw accurate conclusions.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial analysis techniques, credit risk assessment, and industry best practices.
  • Proficient in using financial analysis software and tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in analyzing and interpreting financial data.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making abilities, with the ability to assess risks and make recommendations accordingly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for financial analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Strong ethical standards and adherence to confidentiality requirements.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Credit Analyst, preferably in a senior or leadership role.
  • Solid understanding of financial principles, credit regulations, and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Credit Analyst (CCA) or equivalent is a plus.
  • Proven track record of successful credit analysis and risk assessment in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific credit evaluation criteria and standards including SBA.
  • Familiarity with credit scoring models and credit evaluation software.
  • Experience in working with commercial and consumer credit portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of relevant laws and regulations, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong competency in Microsoft Office suite - including Excel; experience with financial modeling is highly desired.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with relationship managers, portfolio managers, credit officers, clients, and senior management.
  • Maintains working knowledge and awareness of current and future trends in the economy and legislative/regulatory agencies affecting the operation of the department.
  • Develop procedures as needed, and overall coordination of department workflow
  • Oversees loan processing and underwriting functions, including pipeline management and quality control.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of the Credit Union Business Loan Policy, Credit Union SBA Loan policy and Credit Administration Procedures and performs all responsibilities according to these guidelines.
  • Prioritizes work accordingly due to time constraints of closings
  • Ability to ensure compliance with laws and regulations that governs commercial lending
  • Performs special assignments and other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Works with third party vendors including but not limited to: Appraisal Management Companies, Title, and Escrow companies, third party vendors
  • Strong leadership and training skills with the ability to perform day-to-day management tasks
  • Able to operate independently, with a full understanding of all commercial lending products, processing and underwriting procedures and activities
