We are looking for a results-oriented Technical Project Manager to drive technical execution in a fast-paced research environment. As the Foundry’s Technical Project Manager, you will work closely with the Research & Development Program Manager to understand high-level research objectives, translate these objectives into detailed technical execution plans,and lead technical teams to carry out these plans. A successful Technical Project Manager will possess a unique blend of technical intuition, people skills, and operational organization.
Fathom5 Technical Project Managers require:
Curious Mindset – Cyber-physical systems research is highly interdisciplinary, and Technical Project Managers must be technically literate in the projects they manage. Though a technical background in software and/or embedded systems is helpful, the most successful Technical Project Managers are naturally curious autodidacts who enjoy continuously learning about new technologies.
Organization – Technical R&D is a highly iterative process that involves repeated experimentation and prototyping. Technical Project Managers require superb organizational skills to manage evolving technical documentation and archives of experimental data in addition standard project management documentation.
Leadership – Technical Project Managers hold the primary people-facing role in a highly technical environment. The best Technical Project Managers are strong leaders who foster a positive work environment that motivates technical staff and keeps them happy. This means making time to interact with team members to perceive their true capabilities, limitations, and interests.
Written & Verbal Communication — An effective Project Manager must excel in communicating with all stakeholders in a project in both verbal and written formats. This includes the ability to clearly explain highly technical concepts at multiple levels of abstraction to communicate with customers, team members, and leadership. Technical writing skills are particularly important, as the Technical Project Manager will be the primary author of technical reports and briefs for their projects.
