Recreation Fee Technician

JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to perform a variety of duties associated with the collection, deposit, tracking, and expenditure of fee revenue and donations collected from the public under legal authorities such as the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act. MAJOR DUTIES: Serves as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated facilities and services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Performs assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Assists higher level personnel with auditing fee collection program components/systems (e.g. cash registers, road/trail registers, honor systems, automated fee machines or AFMs, donation boxes, etc.). Assist in completing audit paperwork and documenting findings. Prepares and completes remittance reports and bank deposits for funds donated and/or collected by others. Reviews shift reports and count funds collected; investigates and proactively resolves routine or recurring discrepancies, and tracks overages, shortages, and errors. Conducts inventory and/or restocks fee program supplies and assists with placing orders and preparing requisition requests for equipment/supplies as needed. Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties. Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations. Career Seasonal: This is a Career Seasonal position. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will be placed in a non-pay status from approximately 11/2024 to 3/2025 unless other work exists that can be assigned to you during this period. Though my non-pay time may be reduced, I will still be placed in non-pay status for a minimum of 1 pay period in accordance with NPS policy.
