Job Summary:

The Navigator is responsible for emerging efforts under the Title III Part A Strengthening Institutions grant. He/she will help implement the new Navigation System under the Title III Project and will facilitate new student onboarding and on-going support. The Navigator will drive the completion of the individual student’s Financial-Academic-Career (FACs) plan that will connect student interests and skills to their life goals.  This position is responsible for developing, implementing, managing and evaluating services for students with various learning needs, with specific attention to at-risk/high support students. He/she interacts daily with students, faculty and staff professionals concerning students’ needs. The Navigator will be a year-round, non-administrative enterprise intricately linked to assessment of student skills, interests, and progression.   

Essential Functions:

1. Help to design, pilot and implement with the Title III team the new Navigation System.   

2. Collaborate with academic success, career development and faculty for continuous improvement.   

3. Ensure completion and monitoring of individual student’s FACS plan.   

4. Use and train students on the use of EAB.   

5. Monitor and inform Dashboards.   

6. Ensure accomplishment of Navigation System and Co-curricular activity objectives.   

7. Prepare/provide monthly progress reports to the Activity Director.   

8. Assist with data collection for internal and external evaluations.   

9. Design and facilitate training and onboarding for new navigators.   

10. Coordinate training in financial planning for the navigation team.   

11. Participate in weekly Navigator meetings to address concerns and coordinate efforts.   

12. Coordinate outreach to and academic support for at-risk/high support student populations throughout the year to encourage academic success.  

13. Manage and document each student session and follow academic progress.   

14. Track attendance and provide intrusive outreach to encourage academic success.   

15. Monitor and analyze retention efforts and program assessment.   

16. Refer students, as appropriate, to university resources such as The Health and Wellness Center, Accessibility Services, Career Development, Academic Success Center, Residence Life, Student Financial Planning, Campus Ministry, etc.  

17. Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University as demonstrated by the University Ideal Characteristics.  Employees should share the same sense of purpose with being service oriented, respectful, inclusive, intellectually curious, problem solving, innovative, and accountable.   

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Demonstrate a high degree of professional reliability, good judgment, and appropriate utilization of resources  

2. University committee work as assigned  

3. Participation in campus-wide activities such as open houses, Connection Days, Orientation, and Commencement activities  

4. Ongoing professional development including presentation at meetings or conferences  

5. Represent the university at academic and community events  

6. Flexible work hours as required by university or student needs  

7. Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.  

8. Other duties as assigned by the Title III Activity Director and Title III Project Directors 

Qualification/Education:

1. Commitment to the mission statement, core values, and goals of Alvernia University.  

2. Bachelor’s Degree   

3. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  

4. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications   

Physical Requirements:

1. Attendance is required in order to perform the duties of this job.  

2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 

3. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
