Duties include but are not limited to:
Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture) and urine specimen collection on patients;
Performs therapeutic blood collection which is equivalent to 500 ml of blood collected on patients with various blood disorders;
Assists in training other personnel in proper phlebotomy and specimen collection techniques;
Receives and processes a variety of laboratory specimens using processing methods (centrifugation, splitting specimens into aliquots, and separation of components) in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures;
Performs glucose tolerance testing by administering pretest substances, drawing blood at specific time intervals, and testing for Fasting Blood Sugar levels with the authorized blood gas instrument located in the Chemistry department;
Understanding of the basic medical implications of the tests and be able to explain the purpose and procedure for tests to the patient;
Assist in disinfecting and closing the Phlebotomy Room at the end of the shift;
Performs other related duties as assigned

: This is a full-time,
TEMPORARY
(not-to-exceed
1 year
) position. This appointment may be renewed for additional service in accordance with Agency needs. Temporary positions do not offer health or life insurance benefits and may be terminated at any time before the expiration date. The appointment to a temporary position does not confer eligibility for promotion or reassignment to other positions or the ability to be non-competitively converted to permanent employment.




Work Schedule:
Rotating Shifts Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
or
3:30 p.m. - 12:00 p.m. to include weekends and holidays

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
