REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: Partial

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the guidance of the Director , Accounting , the Financial Analyst is responsible for a range of financial planning, reporting, and analysis activities to identify and recommend process improvements , internal controls, and expense savings across the museum’s implementation of organizational plans, and strategies .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop, maintain , and monitor recurring periodic financial scorecards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and models to support the Museum’s development and implementation of both short-term and long-term departmental and organizational plans, strategies, and internal controls .

  • Develop and maintain KPIs, tracking performance against industry benchmarks and targets .

  • I dentify trends, risks, and mak e recommendations to improve operational efficiencies.

  • Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, dashboards, and presentations, highlighting key findings, trends and areas of expense savings and process improvement opportunities.

  • A nalyz e financial results, prepa re variance analy ses , and communicat e key findings to stakeholders.

  • I mplement solutions that effectively visualize KPI data for easy interpretation and analysis.

  • Identify process improvements to reduce process cycle times and maximize use of technology , improve financial forecast quality, and enhance information provided to leadership for business decisions.

  • Act as a liaison to one or more divisions, supporting the division through budget preparation to understanding and analysis of the division’s monthly and annual financial reports. 

  • Facilitate the annual budget development process including meeting with department heads and providing guidance and recommendations. 

  • Manage annual budget set up in general ledger system.

  • Perform ad hoc financial analysis as needed.

  • Provide support to internal and external audits as needed.

  • Remain current in non-profit accounting and GAAP accounting rules, regulations, policies, and reporting requirements.   

  • Apply DIA values to interactions to support a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIECE

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting  required . Seven (7) years of experience in accounting  required . Non-profit experience preferred. CPA Certification preferred.  Additional  years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement. 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of data analysis, trend analysis, financial modeling and scenario planning and use of software solutions to maximize efficiency .

  • Demonstrated proficiency in visual storytelling with data .

  • Working knowledge of financial statements, reporting variances/drivers, and scenario analysis; advanced knowledge of budget and forecast ing principles.

  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • General knowledge of accounting principles for the non-profit industry preferred. 

  • Demonstrated research and analysis skills to  identify  critical information and complete projects and goals. 

  • Ability to provide information, ideas, and instructions clearly, effectively, and professionally through talking or writing. 

  • Demonstrated ability to provide strong customer service. 

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills to work across departments and divisions internally and with diverse stakeholders externally.   

  • Demonstrated organizational skills to plan, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple on-going projects to meet deadlines and goals.  

  • Must possess a demonstrated understanding of ethical business conduct and professional practices including maintenance and protection of confidential and sensitive information .

  • Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for  special events . 

  • Must be proficient in the latest version of Office 365.  

  • Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.  

  • Must be able to  establish  and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork.  This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.
