Position Summary/Job Description

This position is contingent upon continued grant funding*

Reporting to the CTE Senior Assistant Director of Career & Transfer Pathways, the CTE Specialist will hold responsibilities including but not limited to: enabling students to maximize their potential by offering support and guidance in developing effective strategies and habits that improve their personal and academic lives, collaborating with faculty, staff and campus partners to promote CTE program initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Coordination and Implementation
  • Develop and implement retention strategies targeted at CTE students.
  • Coordinate CTE programming, including workshops, industry speaker panels, and related events.
  • Maintain data on student services and track program outcomes for reporting purposes using EAB Navigate, Handshake, and other college platforms.
  • Assist in four-year partnership tabling and CTE transfer related events.
Student Support and Advising
  • Counsel and coach CTE students on career exploration, readiness, and management though individual and group sessions, workshops, and virtual services.
  • Provide specialized advisement on experiential learning opportunities such as internships, externships, and job opportunities via the Handshake platform.
  • Assist students in preparing for the workforce by holding mock interviews and offering guidance on resume writing, cover letters, and job search skills
  • Guide CTE students through the transfer process by helping them explore potential transfer institutions, understand transfer requirements, and navigate transfer agreements.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate with faculty in CTE programs, staff, campus partners and external stakeholders to provide holistic support to CTE students.
  • Partner with academic schools to identify CTE career paths and create opportunities such as custom events and informational workshops.
  • Participate in college committees and external networking opportunities to increase CTE student engagement and partnerships.
Marketing and Outreach
  • Assist Senior Assistant Director in marketing the Career and Transfer Pathways department content through social media, classroom presentations, electronic communications, and other advertising methods.
  • Promote transfer agreements and academic pathways, with specific attention to CTE pathways, through program development and event execution.
Administrative Duties
  • Document all services and create reports to inform departmental strategy and goals.
  • Maintain project files for reporting and provide regular updates on activities and data.
  • Organize and maintain a digital database of pertinent documents related to CTE programs and career and transfer pathways.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance to Senior Assistant Director on updates and enhancements to the Career and Transfer Pathways website.
  • Assess transfer student needs and satisfaction with specific programs and initiatives.
  • Provide advanced administrative support, including scheduling appointments, coordinating event logistics, and maintaining inventory.
  • Assist Senior Assistant Director in monthly and annual reports to track program modifications and improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor's degree required

Minimum of 2 years' experience in career/transfer counseling, academic advising, or related field.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Master's degree in Student Personnel/Counseling/Higher Education or related field; professional work experience preferred.

Familiarity with career services management systems (e.g., Handshake) and student information systems (e.g., Colleague/Ellucian, EAB Navigate).

Skills and Competencies:

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Proficiency in using technology and social media for marketing and communication.

Ability to maintain detailed records and generate comprehensive reports.

Knowledge of career development theories, best practices for transfer students, labor market trends, and student retention strategies.

Additional Requirements:

Flexibility to work some nights and weekends, and to travel between multiple campus sites.

Commitment to supporting the educational and career goals of CTE students, including those from special populations.

OVERVIEW:

Hudson County Community College serves one of the most ethnically diverse and densely populated communities in the United States. The College is a vibrant, urban institution of higher education whose mission is to provide its diverse communities with inclusive, high-quality educational programs and services that promote student success and upward social and economic mobility.

More than 90% of HCCC's students receive scholarships, grants, and loans to finance their education, and the College's extensive financial aid program helps connect students with the resources they need. To date, the College's Foundation has raised over $3.5 million for student scholarships, and HCCC ranks first in the state of New Jersey for its award of Community College Opportunity Grant funds. About half of its more than 12,000 credit students identify as Hispanic, and more than 33% of all students were born outside of the U.S. In 2021, HCCC had two students selected from a national applicant pool to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

Hudson County Community College has three campuses. The largest campus is located at the heart of Jersey City's Journal Square, which is approximately 20 minutes from New York City. The College has a North Hudson Campus, located in Union City, New Jersey and an additional location at the Hudson County Schools of Technology in Secaucus, New Jersey. The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.

The College boasts several signature programs, including a nationally recognized Culinary Arts Institute and School of Nursing and Health Professions. The College's Culinary Arts Institute is one of only three programs in the New York Metropolitan region to hold accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation. The Culinary Arts Institute features state-of-the-art facilities and a hands-on program that prepares students for a range of careers in the hospitality industry. The Nursing Program includes a theoretical base of general education and science courses together with a range of nursing theory and practical courses designed to prepare graduates to be eligible for the New Jersey State Licensure Examination for Registered Professional Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
