Position Summary/Job Description
This position is contingent upon continued grant funding*
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Senior Assistant Director, Office of Career & Transfer Pathways
Reporting to the Associate Dean of the Office of Career and Transfer Pathways, the CTE Senior Assistant Director will hold responsibilities including but not limited to: providing leadership to ensure student success and continuous improvement of HCCC's CTE programs, manage CTE specialist staff, coordinate, develop, and execute career and transfer pathways activities. The Senior Assistant Director will report on budget management for HCCC's Perkins V grant program.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervision and Leadership:
- Oversee the activities and professional development of CTE specialists.
- Ensure that CTE specialists are equipped with the necessary tools and strategies to excel in their roles.
- Coordinate initiatives to promote equitable participation and ensure that CTE students can make educational and career decisions based on their needs, interests, abilities, and the changing labor market.
- Provide staff professional development opportunities to meet program goals aligned with Perkins grant objectives and Hudson County Community College's strategic plan.
- Establish and sustain collaborative relationships with deans and major coordinators to support CTE student success initiatives.
- Connect with faculty, staff, and campus partners to share updated CTE data, programs, and initiatives.
- Manage and ensure the accuracy and integrity of data collection related to CTE programs.
- Utilize data to assess program performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare and submit monthly and annual reports to track program modifications and improvements.
Address Career and Transfer Equity Gaps:
- Implement strategies to identify and address equity gaps within CTE programs.
- Support CTE specialists in developing initiatives that promote inclusivity and equal access to opportunities for all students.
- Monitor progress and outcomes of equity-focused initiatives to ensure effective implementation and continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of 2 years' experience in career/transfer counseling, academic advising, technical education or related field.
Experience in budget development, management, and fiscal responsibility.
Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory experience.
Education and Experience Preferred:
Master's degree in Student Personnel/Counseling/Higher Education or related field
Familiarity with career services management systems (e.g., Handshake) and student information systems (e.g., Colleague/Ellucian, EAB Navigate).
Skills and Competencies:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Proficiency in using technology and social media for marketing and communication.
Ability to maintain detailed records and generate comprehensive reports.
Knowledge of career development theories, best practices for transfer students, labor market trends, and student retention strategies.
Additional Requirements:
Flexibility to work some nights and weekends, and to travel between multiple campus sites.
Commitment to supporting the educational and career goals of CTE students, including those from special populations.
OVERVIEW:
Hudson County Community College serves one of the most ethnically diverse and densely populated communities in the United States. The College is a vibrant, urban institution of higher education whose mission is to provide its diverse communities with inclusive, high-quality educational programs and services that promote student success and upward social and economic mobility.
More than 90% of HCCC's students receive scholarships, grants, and loans to finance their education, and the College's extensive financial aid program helps connect students with the resources they need. To date, the College's Foundation has raised over $3.5 million for student scholarships, and HCCC ranks first in the state of New Jersey for its award of Community College Opportunity Grant funds. About half of its more than 12,000 credit students identify as Hispanic, and more than 33% of all students were born outside of the U.S. In 2021, HCCC had two students selected from a national applicant pool to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation's Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.
Hudson County Community College has three campuses. The largest campus is located at the heart of Jersey City's Journal Square, which is approximately 20 minutes from New York City. The College has a North Hudson Campus, located in Union City, New Jersey and an additional location at the Hudson County Schools of Technology in Secaucus, New Jersey. The College offers 70 degree and certificate programs and more than 300-day, evening, and weekend courses throughout its three-campus network.

The Culinary Arts Institute features state-of-the-art facilities and a hands-on program that prepares students for a range of careers in the hospitality industry. The Nursing Program includes a theoretical base of general education and science courses together with a range of nursing theory and practical courses designed to prepare graduates to be eligible for the New Jersey State Licensure Examination for Registered Professional Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
